Thanks all for your birthday wishes! I did have a very happy birthday and today it was made even better by my 3 wonderful children who gave me a gift certificate for a day spa. (they were just waiting for Sam to come home from college for the weekend which is why it was late). Her boyfriend also brought me two wonderful plants today when he came over.
Nancy.........yup I know and can you believe I was sent a happy birthday e-mail from him!
Now folks for my big news! For the first time in close to 19 year (19 in March) I am working for a pay cheque! I was hired last Friday and started on Monday! (no time to sweat and stress). I had interviewed for this job back in Oct. but didn't get it. I really wasn't qualified. The boss/owner said he should have went with his heart in the first place. The company I am working for is a printing company. It's just me and the boss man. I'm covering for someone on maternity leave. First day and he sits me down at a Mac! (never used one before). I working with illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXPress and Photoshop (only opened that up once this week) No design work yet. To start a lot of the work is a matter of plugging it into templates but I have the extra challenge of working with software I don't know.
So my friends, I am learning, Quark, InDesign, Illustrator and a Mac all at once!! Thank goodness for lynda.com and the fact that since Oct. I have been playing around with illustrator. Hours are flexible. Boss is very patient and has a great sense of humour. The scary huge copier with the 6 paper trays isn't my friend yet, but I'm learning.
It's a whole new start for my life and so far 2008 and has started out terrific!! Thanks all for thinking of me and know that I've not turned into a snob I'm just so darn busy trying to learn it all!

That is great news. You'll do fine - just one day at a time. Look at all the great training and experience you are getting too!

you guys are great! Thanks to all of you for your support. I really am in learning mode and one thing about me is I'm not a quitter, If I don't know something I'll find out. I won't have much time at all for anything creative on my own for the time being because I have to concentrate solely on learning, but that's ok. I know the benefits of all my hard work will pay off in the long run.
I must also say that I thank everyone at PET for giving me the opportunity to do those tutorials as they impressed the boss and probably in part played into me getting the job. (even though PS is the program used least there!)..........now I just need to win that tablet I'm bidding on to hook up to my computer at work. ;) (he didn't know what a tablet was)

I might have a spare cintique or two in the bottom of my junk box.. want to borrow one???:D:D
Seriously .. I do have a spare small graphire 3 ..(just got the bamboo so the graphire is unplugged) I could always drop it with your daughter and she could bring it home.
I know you are used to the bigger intuos, but better than nothing.:)

Thanks Kathy. Believe me it was a long time in coming, but the new journey I am on I think will be a fabulous one.
My boss told me today that I have to make more mistakes than him. :D
I said, "Then I have some catching up to do." LOL He just laughed.
Wait until I hook up the tablet I brought in..........it will blow him away and I'm betting he'll buy me one for the office.

Thanks Sherry. Good seeing you. I'm rarely around anymore and now when I get off work the computer work I do has to do with learning illustrator and inDesign! So far my head hasn't exploded. Add to that a new printer that was brought in yesterday!! It's crazy busy and I'm loving every minute of it.

Pauline,
I know I feel like I'm swimming in technology & learning--from a new computer-new operating system., a new phone & 2 minutes ago , a bluetooth for the phone.......... (because in California, the law will start that you have to be hands free on the phone in the car)
I'm very happy for you!!:)
