Hello and Happy New Year to all forum members.

I have been out of action lately due to the big CRASH! Yes, my computer crashed, and I didn't have back-ups.:o Tut tut tut!

Got my system back last night so it's head down bottom up for me trying to finish the project I was on when the crash happened. Mmm, a 'this is your life' photobook for my brother's sixtieth, four weeks away, and still over a hundred photos left to scan. And none of the little extra's I had purchased to help me along. (Lost everything in the crash - no back ups for all my downloads either) Wish me luck:)

So, new 'element's users' please LEARN FROM MY MISFORTUNE, I was just lazy, and am now paying the price.

Toni,
i feel your frustration. Hope everything comes along quickly for you. there is a way to scan several photos at one time & separate them. Might help you out.

Toni, I'm sorry you've lost so much of your work. And thank you for being the "voice of experience" for us.

As to the extra goodies you had purchased for your project, if you have email confirmation that was saved on an outside server (on AOL, for instance) of your purchase or a credit card bill showing the charge, you might be able to get replacement downloads at no cost once you've explained what has happened.

I have a fair number of elements that I have made lurking around in my files. If there is something particular that you need, let me know and I'll see if I've got something we can make work for you.

Hi Toni ...

So sorry to hear about the crash ...

... if it was scrapbooking items that you lost then try email the relevant sites and see what they say. :)

Sorry about your crash - its the pits
But the old saying still holds true

It's not IF you hard drive will crash but WHEN it will crash. It's too bad that people learn that the hard way.

Best wishes in the rebuild and of course backing up.

I feel the pain. My system went over the cliff a couple years ago, but luckily I had saved all but one set of images. Those of my mother and my sisters and myself in Nevada. These were the last images of my mother I was able to take. Definetly back up as soon as you load them into the computer. Never again. I won't load and wait until morning ever again.

I would just die!! Hope you get it all back. I have learned to make 2 disc copies of all of my pics. One you can keep handy and the other should be stored in a safe place (safety deposit box). I keep my 2nd copy at my Mother's house. That way even though I go to the trouble to back up, if my house should ever catch fire or some other disaster, I would have a copy elsewhere!!

Thanks for the support guys. And thanks for not doing the 'I told you so' thing on me. Believe me, I did that on myself.

The multiple scanning is brilliant Christell. Though my scanning bed is not huge, I can do a few photos at one time. A great time saver.

My recovered stuff from the crash is all over my system, no directories, no names, and also a lot of corrupt stuff when I pull them up. Will take me months to sort through. Example: 10,000 jpgs! True! Even stuff I have looked at in your galleries is coming up on my system. Weird, as I did clear my internet history regularly. The sad thing is, I can only recognize a minute number of these jpgs as mine, most of them are not relevant to me at all.

But, I am going to concentrate now on looking forward, not backwards, and will put it down to experience. Thanks again for your support and offers of help, it lightens the load a bit.

Toni,

So sorry about the crash. A few years ago I too lost everything from a computer crash. I had two internal HardDrives and used one as a backup, they both crashed at the same time (power surge). I now use an External HardDrive as a backup and turn it off when not using. I also burn another copy to DVD.

When scanning multiple pictures keep about 1\4 inch between pictures so PSE can distinguish each picture for separation.
