Hey everyone... i'm in need of some major help. I just got photoshop elements 6.0, and am trying to figure out digi scrapbooking. I have downloaded a few kits... Anyway, I try and bring different elements that I have downloaded onto my page, and they appear as the element... with a white box(border) around them. Hellllp! I have been working on it for hours and CANT figure out how to bring my elements onto my page without this dang border. Any tips or advice would be sooo greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

When I bring an embellishment to my page, (I drag and drop it from my folder of embellishments), it looks like.... this. Ok, it wont let me post a picture of it. But lets say I am trying to use a flower. And I drag and drop it, and there is my flower, but it has a square around it with a white background. Not just the flower on its own. Do you get what I mean? I really cant figure out how to get the flower on its own, with no square and background around it.

Try the magic wand tool to select the white background, then press backspace to delete it. That should leave the flower by itself.

Ok I tried the magic wand... and clicked on the little white background. It made a lined dancing (moving) border around my flower and around the whole page. (Ive never used the magic wand, and not sure what its supposed to do anyway). Then i clicked backspace and an error appeared saying "Could not complete your request because the smart object is not directly editable."

Hi , in PSE6 you drag your papers, photos or embellishments from the editor window (big grey) DOWN to your scrap background in the bottom bin.
It's not very sensible and different the way previous versions worked.
Try it and see if this solves your problem

No... that didnt work either. Im not entirely sure of what you mean though. Lets say I start with a completely new page, no background or anything. Now in order to get my background, I open my file (all my scrap stuff is on a flash drive) so I pick the background I want, and I drag and drop it into my bin.... then what? This just doesnt seem to be working right.

Hi razberrysnapple,
I don't have V6, I'm just repeating what I have read here on the forum.
You put your main Paper, Image or background in the bottom bin.
Then open your photo or embellishment in the main window
and click and drag down to the bin onto your main page.
I will find you a link that explains it better.

Awesome, thank you so much. I have been looking alllll day and I thought when I came across this elementsvillage it would be my savior. But it seems like no one else really knows either! But I must be doing something wrong if no one else is having this problem.

Hi,
I've read all about this in the forum and can tell you this:
In version 5, you could open a number of items (which appear in the bin) with one on the workspace. You could drag an item from the bin to the document on the workspace, where it would be another layer.
In version 6, if you do that you create a frame layer with that box around it. Frustrating, isn't it!
What you need to do is open all the items in the bin by using the tile or cascade methods. Move them around so you can see two images; i.e., one is the background, the other the paper or embellishment. Drag the paper/embellishment from one image to the other or copy/paste if you prefer.
I will look for the other threads which detail what a frame layer is.
Edit: Here is the thread. http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33382&highlight=frame+layer

Hi, I'm new to digital scrapbooking also so I hope I can explain what I think is going on. When you open up an element look for the ones that have an extension of .png these files have a transparent background so when you drag and drop you only get the element and not the white box around the element. If you don't have a .png file to choose from then select the element with a lasso tool then select edit, inverse and then delete. This will select only the element itself. Then you can drag and drop onto your page. If you open up all your elements, photos, and papers to your bin at the bottom you need to select File, new and give you page a name and its sizes to have a place to drag and drop you bin items into. Good luck and happy scrapbooking.

You are not alone. I have posted a similar question a day earlier. I made an embellishment thinking I could use it like other graphics later. Bringing it up always had the white around it. Very frustrating. I left it alone for now but will try again. I will try the suggestion I read. Just glad to see I'm not the only one having this problem.

Hi folks
Here are a couple of things to try.
First have both images open on your screen (cascade or tile mode).
now you can drag layers between the two images.
or with the smart object open right click on the layer it is on and pick simlpify. Now you can use the magic wand to selelct the white bacground and delete it.
Not as intuitive as it could be and there is a some reasons smart objects are used. I just cant recall what they are.
