Hi All

For two hours I've tried and tried to get a logo I made to have a TRANSPARENT background. :( I've tried in vain to follow the directions in other threads to no avail! Right now I have the logo in a PNG format but I could start with it in a JPEG format easily as well. As it is when I add it too a website page it shows on the site as a black background butt if I just open the PNG file on my PC it shows as an off white background. What I need is for the background to be TRANSPARENT when I add it to a website. I'm kinda DUMB - If anyone knows can you give me step by step instructions on turning the background TRANSPARENT - THANKS SO VERY VERY MUCH! Melvin - Buda, Texas

Hi Melvin,
When you want to create a new file go to File>New>Blank file. Set the size you want it to be and at the very bottom you will see (Background Content) click the arrow & you should see transparent. Click on this & you should have a transparent background to start with. Just ask if you need anymore help,
Christell

When you say you open a PNG file on a PC it has an off white background. Are you opening it in Elements editor? and does it show a transparent background there (would be the checkerboard look if transparent) If it is showing an off white background, it is not transparent. You can take that PNG and select/delete the background by various methods and it will become a psd file that you can then save as a PNG for web. (Use the save-for -web under the file menu to convert for the Web.)

Good luck!

The logo is a PNG file and when I open in elements it shows checkerboard background. To me that means transparent. When I add to a page on the website it is NOT transparent. I can start with the logo as a plain JPEG, GIF or PNG. My question is HOW DO I MAKE THE BACK GROUND TRANSPARENT?

One of the replies speaks of making a new file the size I want ??? This does not compute with me. The other reply says DELETE the background by VARIOUS METHODS. What does this mean.

I will try again. I have a logo with a NON TRANSPARENT background. I can start with the logo image being either a PNG, JPEG or GIF image. STEP BY STEP (for someone BRAND NEW to Elements) how do I make the logo have a transparent background so that when I place it on a webpage the background will be transparent and not a white or colored box? Believe it or not I bought Elements mainly just so I can perform this task BUT FOR the life of me I can not get directions on how to perform this task.

I'm getting to the point where I am desperate to get this simple thing done. THANKS

I GOT IT As soon as I changed it to a GIF file itwas transparent! As a PNG file it had the checkerboard background but wasn't invisible. As a GIF file it is! Thanks for the help two of you offered. Melvin

Hi Melvin,
Glad you got it to work. FYI, I have found that many web sites do not support png transparencies. The png you have is probably correct; the problem may be the web site that you are trying to use it on. Check with your website host. I also found that by placing a png with transparency on my computer desk top, it does not support the transparency aspect.

Hi Melvin, tessie (Dublin, Ireland) here. I'm a new user too, I have been to the point of giving up on this pse4 THING. The help - SORRY WHAT!- DID YOU SAY HELP (oh you mean the little word at the top that leads you to nowhere!) Can you feel my frustration? well I could feel how annoyed you were getting just by reading your questions. So I am THRILLED that you GOT IT. I am completely happy for someone I don't know and will never meet. I hope your website is Fantastic. I'm just waiting on answers, love this site

Sooo true. That's why I only use transparent PNGs in presentations. PowerPoint and Keynote likes 'em just fine.
