View Full Version : PE6 Organizer Frustration

I recently purchased and installed PE6 and was disappointed to find out that none of my existing cataloged photos in PE5 transferred to the PE6 organizer. I’ve tried several times to import (or whatever the correct term is) my catalog from PE5 to PE6, but on each attempt, I keep on getting the following message:

"The conversion operation failed. Try repairing the catalog with the software that created it and retry conversion."

I went into PE5 and tried several times to recover the catalog, and after each attempt I received a message that told me that the recovery was successful. Then, when I tried to convert the recently recovered (repaired?) catalog, I received the aforementioned ‘operation failed’ message.

I would think that Adobe would assume that users would like to automatically carry over their photos from one version to the next without going through such frustration. I would appreciate any help regarding this matter.

Thanks

Hi,
Sorry to hear you have problems. Evidently others did too, so Adobe has a page referring to them.

Hope you have better luck soon.

Hi,

I'm afraid this is not unusual. I don't know of any way of fixing it. Here's a link to a thread (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33287&highlight=collection) where I suggested a means of making the best recovery that I think is possible from this situation, by reimporting your photos and tag/collection structure into a new PSE6 catalog. Good luck!

I have always been an Organiser fan, but I think Adobe have substantially dropped the ball in PSE6. They did a great deal of work "under the hood" of the Organiser between PSE5 and PSE6, changing from an Access to SQLite database. I don't think they've done that work to an acceptable standard. They've introduced a number of bugs, most of which, fortunately, are merely irritating.

But for a company of Adobe's standing not to be able to write conversion routines that translate their own files properly and reliably between versions is beyond disappointing. :(
