So I took a class on my SLR yesterday and learned about shooting in the raw. I was interested to see all you could do with it there.
But when I got home and uploaded to Elements 4.0 it said it couldn't read the files...
Do I need a newer version of Elements or is there some way for it to be able to read RAW files? The guy teaching the class said it is hidden in Elements...so who knows where?
Thanks so much!

You probably need a more recent version of ACR. What camera are you using? Depending on your answer you may or may not be able to stay with PSE4.0.

Hi, you don't necessarily need a new version of Elements. You may need an update on the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) file from Adobe. It's FREE.
It could be that as PSE4 is an older program and you may have a newer Camera that did not exist when PSE4 came out.
So don't lose heart yet.
Some one who knows more about this will steer you right.
Sorry can't find the address right now.
As I said, it depends on the camera... We'll definitely know what to tell you once you post back with that information ;)

Thanks for the replies.
I have Elements 4.0 and a Canon Rebel XTi
I tried updating, so far that has not changed things...the files that are RAW have a CR2 label after them.

Go to adobe's site and down load the newest version of acr(raw converter) for pse4. I found it by typing raw into the search bar on adobe's site back when I need to upgrade. I believe it's 4.3 you need but am not at home right now to tell you which I'm using with pse4. It is FREE.

The latest Camera Raw update for Elements 4.0 is ACR version 3.7, which does support the Canon Rebel XTi.
Be sure to follow all the instructions on the page linked below after downloading the update and you should be ready to go.

Hi Tony,
Are you sure? I don't think I've managed to get anything above 4.1 to work on PSE4.

I'm home now and it is 4.1 that works for PSE4 on mac.

Well the 3.7 one works. I downloaded the 4.3 one as well, but am afraid to install it since the 3.7 one is working...
Thanks for all your help!!

4.3 may not work with Elements 4.0, but 4.1 will.
