Trouble with overlay using clone stamp tool

I watched the video on the clonestamp overlay and tried it. The first time it worked fine. But the second time I could not get it the overlay to show. I know there is a problem with the aligned box staying checked, do they have a problem with the overlay working too. I now also sometimes have a problem with a brush painting on the layer with the clonestamp. I have tried the reset tool button. But nothing helps.

I really liked the overlay, the short time I had it. Sure hope it is fixable.

Myself I don't like the overlay option... it complicates the process... I have no problem aligning the stamp.

Your problem most likely is you are stamping on a blank layer and you do not have "Use all layers" checked.

The default... and what you get when you reset the tool... does not check this box in the stamp option menu.

Otherwise there is nothing on your blank layer so you are just cloning blank areas.... with the use all layers checked you then clone information from the layers below.
