I have been viewing online lesson 1-6 using the quictime view link. But now all of a sudden I cant view the lessons. I click it and a window appears and quikcly says DONE but nothing appears.
I also tried this on the subscriber area tutorials with the same effect.
I have saved my past lessons(.mov) and they still play with quicktime
Any help or suggestions of what could be wrong?
I am using windows xp

Hi Jack ...

... you didn't say which classes you are doing but I just check all three of them and they all seem to be working just fine.

Try the Video introduction to the courses and see if you can see that one OK ...here is a link to it:

http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/training_courses/workflow.html

if that doesn't work then just check this one out too. Click on Learning Centre (at the top of this page) and you will see sample video tips "Swatches" ... can you view that one?

I tried both. What happens is the same. When I click on the "View video", a small Explorer window opens and a small icon appears in the upper left and "Done" appears in the bottom bar. this happens almost instantly.

The strange thing is this just started. I have been viewing videos on this site for quite a while. I also uninstalled Quicktime and reinstalled it. But still the same thing. Quicktime will work ok with saved MOV files but within the explorer, it doesnt seem to work.
Thanks for any help Wendy

Jack ...

The mov files are slightly different and I am starting to think that the answer maybe to download Quicktime again and reinstall it. This has solved a few problems in the past ... could be that Quicktime has become slightly corrupt.

Do let us know how you go on :)

That is what I did. I uninstalled Quicktime and got the latest version and reinstalled. I is the same. It seems that internet explorer will not play the quicktime. the icon that appears indicates a broken link which I am not sure how to resolve

Jack -- do you have another browser you could try -- I've had some problems with IE Crashing when I download a video using it.

Firefox works well and a search will yield the site where you can get the latest version -- may have to reinstall QT to get it loaded into Firefox but it is worth a try since you've done all the know trouble shooting.

I have had the very same problem that Jack described. What I have done is to clear the Temporary Internet Files, then restart IE and try again. Sometimes it starts right away and other times it takes quite a while before it loads. I just keep trying and eventually it works. I have had this problem on the Portrait's Class. All other videos I have not had a problem with. I think there's a glitch somewhere and I don't believe it's with Quick Time.

Wish I could offer more assistance.

I tried what you suggested, deleting cookies and temp files. Reload explorer and tried mutliple times but to no avail.
It is not only Quicktime that wont work in explorer but even windows media player, so it must be a problem with explorer.

I am not sure I want to try another Browser like willpresley has suggested but I may end up doing just that.
Thanks

Jack ..

It does sounds like its an Explorer problem :(

I'm a Mac user so things are slightly different for me but I stopped using Explorer quite a while back and I now use Firefox. It is excellent much better than Explorer .... I downloaded it just to try it out but it is so good that I have stayed with it. I have kept Explorer on my system but I can't remember the last time I used it.

Hi Jack,

What version of IE and QT are you using?

If you aren't using 6.0.2 try updating your IE and see if that helps.

Let me know so I can check with the web guys Mon AM if you are still having problems.

I am using IE as well as Firefox. All seems to work fine in either for me.

I only use IE now for the odd site, that firefox seems to have a problem with (could just be a plugin issue) or when I want to save the quicktime lessons (easier to find)

I am using version 6.02 of IE. It still doesnt work. I have defrag my disk but to no avail. A number of you have suggested firefox and I have donwloaded from the site as you suggested, but have not executed the install. I am still afraid it will mess up my IE. Can both be resident at the same time and will outlook express be accessed by firefox. what downside do you see if I do that.
It still bothers me that everything else is working ok with ie except for viewing video files.
I appreciate all of your opions and support

Jack ...

You can run several file browsers on your system and they don't interact with or effect each other at all. So don't worry about it .... its just like having different software programs on there.

I have Firefox, Camino, Safari and IE browsers on my system and there are no problems at all.

Well I did it. I installed firefox and can view the videos now. I am still concerned about what problem I may have with Ie, but I guess that can wait.
Thanks for all your help

I am also experienceing the same difficulty downloading quicktime movies from each daily lesson. Ive tried all the suggestions and have the same problem. Not only that some lessons are missing so I suspect there are problems on the "teachers" side. I even tried saving source target. Nothing works other than to keep trying and eventually getting lucky. Possibly there would be a place where the "students" could download all the lessons needed. I can tell you this, I will think twice about another online class with Photoshop Elements Techniques.

Please don't be discouraged Grogory. While this class seems to have it's problems, I have taken the other class without any problems, I'm sure they will get things worked out.

Besides the value of the class vs. the price is too great to miss out on.

You can always try downloading the Firefox browser like the other person who was having this trouble, which seemed to clear it up. Personally I have just stuck with IE and eventually I get the movie downloaded. I have found that it takes a really long time to open up after the dialog box for QT appears. First I get a black screen with the blue QT in the middle, then it turns white with the blue QT and Finally it opens.

Let us know if you are experiencing any different problems. We all want to be helpful.

Gregory,
I'm sorry you are having problems, I spoke with our webteam and they suggested that you make sure all of your software versions are current,
both QT and IE. Newest version of QT is 7.0.3 and the newest IE is 6.0.2.
Oh perhaps check your Wndows Media Player for an update too (if you are on Windows that is) I think the version there is WMP 10.

Also perhaps try the FireFox browser?I use it and love it. We just went thru all the movies and they are loading fine on several different computers here, so I'm at a lost as to why you are unable to view them :(

Let me know how you are progressing and I'll keep trying to figure out what
could be the problem.

Tami,

I know I have the latest versions of QT and IE and Windows Media, yet it does take a long time to download the Portrait Class Movies. I never had any trouble with the Workflow Class. I was thinking about trying Firefox, but thought I would wait to see how the next classes are handled in as much as there was some talk about changing how they would be accessed.

Dorrie ...

Has there been talk about how future classes will be accessed ?? ... if so then I must have missed that.

I am currently taking the Portrait class and have had no problems either downloading quickly or saving the files. Is it possible that spyware or adware has snuck into your systems?

I use Adaware to scan my system each week and as careful as I am about where I go on the internet etc I always have some that the program catches when I scan. :)

I am also currently taking the online "portraits" lessons and have not had any problem with QT. However I am unable to download with Wndows Media player. Lesson 18 today took a lot longer to download than any of the other ones and after 3 failed attempts was able to get it. It may have something to do with timing and traffic.

Wendy

I think that the timing and traffic may indeed have something to do with it ... although I have found that the site as a whole has been very slow today :(

Wendy,

Yes there was some info in regards to doing the classes different in the future. I think it was Dave Cross who posted the comment. There's a thread in here somewhere. I just don't know how to search for it.

Photoshy,

I think you are right about the traffic & timing. There have been times went it downloaded very quickly and other times not.

Mary,

I do use Adaware and scan my system often. Also have Norton Security and Anti-Virus. Don't visit a lot of different sites. Don't have time as I'm here most of the time...

Thanks for all your thoughts. I'll just keep working my way through it however long it takes. But it does seem like I'm not the only one having this problem... Strange...It's just computer grimlins.

Hi Dorrie ...

You don't mean the comments about the videos not having a download link nowadays do you ?

Wendy

No, Wendy.

This is what I'm referring to:

The first class was, in part, a learning process for us to determine the best way to present training materials. Due to ongoing support issues with the video download options, and because it required additional resources to produce and store multiple versions of the video (four different videos, versus two now), we decided to discontinue the download option. Eliminating this download option allows us to produce new training faster and more efficiently and reduces multiple options that some people found to be confusing.

We are also currently evaluating the potential of improving our course video content by using true streaming video technology and/or technologies other than Windows Media Player and QuickTime, most of which inherently will not allow for downloads. Our anticipation of these technologies reinforced our decision not to include a download option for our course video content.

Thanks for your understanding of this change as we work to create a better online training experience. Please remember that you are welcome to view the videos directly from the training website as many times as you care to during your 60 days of access. I’d definitely suggest downloading and hanging on to the .pdf outlines of all the lessons and either printing them so that you can take notes on the training as you go through the video, or just typing up some notes on your computer as you’re going through the video. That way, you have consolidated all the highlights of the content so you can look back on them as you’re working on your own creations. Happy Photoshopping!

It came from the thread "Downloaded Videos???" and it was on page two.

Hi Dorrie ...

Thank you for that ... I must have missed it :)

Do hope that they are not going to move to flash ... I have had terrible problems trying to view them.

I feel for any of you who are having the download problem and I think you need to look into your Temp. cache settings and antivirus and firewall settings. I am running IE, Norton AV, Zone Alarm. My Temp. folder is set at 1144MB and I do not delete. I have been able to download both the QT and WMV versions without problems. I don't really know that the Flash version is going to work any better for you. As stated earlier, get your programs up to date and run the AV at least once a week.

My concern about a different format for the classes would not being able to save them. Yesterday I reviewed my first class after more than 2 months since it ended. With my added experience the classes made even more sense to me in some cases. I had also forgotten some of the information that didn't register when I was taking the class.

If I can't save the online classes then I think I will have to spend the money on books so I can review them from time to time or as the need comes up. If the classes will be sold on DVD's instead of online I would consider that over classes online that could not be saved.

Hi Wendy ...

Have you tried downloading Quicktime again and reinstalling it ?
