When saving a print file in TIFF it's not correct, the thumb nail doesn't look complete. Therefore I'll resort to saving in JPEG. This happens often however other times it does work good. Perhaps I'm missing something in flattening of the editing process.

Does anyone else have this problem? I would like to find a solution.

Haven't had that problem. Could it be because you're flattening? TIFF is usually used to save all the layers without flattening.

Greetings Wendy,
I sure do like tips that you been give to us. Looks as though I'll learn doing without the Newletter and Users page. And yes I see this problem when I flatten the TIFF image files. I have the understanding that TIFF will give mare faithfull prints as compared to JPEG???? By the way, I've always used RAW but just now dwelling to record images using the JPEG format. Cameras are Minolta A2 and Canon Rebel xTi w/ 300 mm lens.

Saying "incomplete" as in all of the "layers" don't show in the thumbnail also have been sharpening via high-pass technique.

I am new to the Village but have used Newletter since day ONE publication. Thank you both for your time with this matter.

Hi JC ...

Umm ... I'm still a little confused.

My missing layers do you mean that not everything that showed on the layered image is visible onscreen once you have saved it as a flattened tiff ??

What exactly is missing :)

Hello Windy,
I'm rather Uncomfortable in that I can't readily explain... :o
The thumbnail is the incomplete part, and when I'm loading into a kiosk it does not recognize this image file.
Sometimes the image file has not problem and other times this same pattern repeats itself.

Thank you for your help eith this matter.

Greetings: You might be in the correct direction with it because YES... I see this problem when the image is flattened. However only on certain image files and the others work nicely.

Thanks for you time with this effort.

Hi Windy,
Perhaps I could say the image file is corrupt. The thumbnail resembles the look of a film megative and it will not print on the comercial printers. By the way, another Village user mentioned something about "flattening" the file. And yes I have be doing that. Can we achieve good TIFF files that have been flattened? I have been using three (3) Elements versions and I'm still learning. :)

Thanks again for your time with this matter.

JC....

Tiff files will not give you any better prints than a JPEG. What counts is the quality of the image in the first place.

Most consumer printer shops...i.e shops, booths etc require JPEG files.

If you've been working with layers and you save the result as a TIFF file it can retain the layers. However, you can also save the image as a JPEG, in which case the layers get 'flattened' in the process.
