Been using PSE 3.0 since 11/04. Today I go to start it (Picture Organizer) and I get this: "DirectX is installed but could not be initialized. Please reboot and restart" - I reboot and get the the same message. I have uninstalled and reinstalled PSE 3.0 - no luck.

I am running DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904). The DXDIAG tool shows no errors.

Ive had this before. Unfortunately my System Restores are NOT working either - I dont see a Windows Update recently either.

Thx in advance....Jon

Jon,

Sounds like the problem may be with DirectX... which cannot be uninstalled and therefore would have been unaffected by the reinstall of PE3. Have you checked other software?

Perhaps you could reinstall DirectX 9.0c? You need to set a Restore point though - it is the only way of undoing any changes with DirectX.

I agreee Mike - I fixed this once by using a restore point but (unfortunatelly for me) I cannot get any restore points to work now...and I have about 20 of them.

I am contemplating a reinstall of XP - shouldnt that work?

Hmmm you could have a registry problem :|

If you are contemplating reinstalling XP, I would try three things before doing so:

1. Check you have the latest drivers for your video card (some people have found issues with DirectX9 and Nvidea cards).

2. Run a program like CleanMyPC registry cleaner to see if it finds and corrects any errors in the registry (you can download a limited time free trial from www.registry-cleaner.net). This program has saved me a couple of times...

3. Try reinstalling DirectX9.
