I'm hoping this is not objectionable material. If it is, let me know and I'll remove it.

My wife and I just moved into a new house that contains a full bar (gotta love the housing market today...). My wife is an up and coming "beer snob," being trained by one of our good friends. By beer snob, I mean she takes pride in tasting obscure domestic and foreign lagers, ales, and other such nonsense.

I, myself, am partial to bourbons, specifically sour mashes, and have long been a shooter of Jack Daniel. (My dog's name is Whiskey Jack). Though I have just begun to enter the world of Scotch (I'm partial to the smokey and strong biting flavor of Talisker but will not push away a Caol Ila or even the softer Macallan), I will always hold Jack as my favorite (Black Label for friends, Single Barrel for dear friends).

My wife has found a real nice wood carving that states, "Beer! Proof that God loves us!" and, as a devout Methodist, sincerely agrees with this sentiment. That got me searching for something to put up in our bar heralding my sentiment for Jack Daniel's Whiskey. However, as always seems the case (and is the very reason why I bought Elements in the first place) I have found nothing to my liking and began to put together my own bar poster.

I have blatantly stolen a Russian Jack Daniel Ad and placed my own text. The picture is set to be printed at a ratio of 8.25" by 12.25" to allow for an 8x12 mat in a 12x16 frame. The frame is a simple rectangular black and the mat is a double black with simple white bevels. Though I stay away from black on black in my color schemes, I think it will look good in the bar.

I wanted to thank the community here for helping me out in the past. I have rarely put in my input to others and hope to do so more often in the future. Hopefully you'll like the poster. I created it for my own private purposes and share it to you all as friends, so there shouldn't be any issue copyright wise (I've kept all the copyright material in the picture to make it look more authentic).

You'll notice that my last name is Daniel, so the text has a specific reference to my family :) Enjoy.

The original Russian Ad. (Can't speak Russian, if anyone knows what it says, let me know ;)

I've yet to decide whether I want to say "Here's to our brother" at the bottom or "Here's to our uncle." As many people ask if Jack was my distant uncle. Let me know what you think.

I think that is fantastic! Gosh, that should be enough to convert your wife to your side....

Great job on the ad! Not objectionable to me at all. I should send you my "All Jacked Up" italian beef recipe! :D

The Russian reads:

'Happy Birthday, Mister Jack'

Love the way you've personalised the ad!:)

(Should mention that I majored in Russian at University!)

JDaniel,

Whatever slogan ends up at the bottom, I expect it will look great in your bar!!

Nicely done, JDaniel! By the way, if you like the smoky single malts, don't miss the Laphroaig. Actually, all of the Islay scotches are known for their smokiness, but Laphroaig is my favorite ... and Lagavulin ... I'm also a fan of Johnny Walker but that might have something to do with the fact that I was born in Kilmarnock, home of Johnny Walker. :D
Welcome to the Elements Village!

Wow, very nicely done.

As far as Walker is concerned. I almost drink them all. I do prefer the Blue if its available when its not too expensive for a shot. Sometimes it can get real expensive.

As for single Malts, has anybody tried my favorite, Aberlour 15 year old?

And then again, I can't get past the Mister Daniels. Been drinking this old favorite of mine since 1973....................... Of course when I did turn 18 LOL

Ohh, maybe this is a good excuse to start a project of taking pictures of our favorite Bottles??? Time to get the old seamless out and try a good product shot. Been way too long for me to do this!!!

Ha! Glad you guys liked it. I just got back from my favorite Irish pub, Trinity Hall in Dallas, TX. I brought the pic to them and they liked it a lot. I had a small drink of Talisker 125th anniversary (they don't have too many bottles left, so I'm drinking as much as I can).

JulieM: My wife actually likes the taste of Jack better than I do (I love the taste, but its the painful experience that I truly go for. A wine for its boutique, a scotch for its flavor, a bourbon for its pain. ;) She actually doesn't drink bourbon as she likes it too much and doesn't have the stomach for too many shots.

NMarti: I need that recipe! I've tried Milwaukee Joe's Jack and chocolate ice cream, frighteningly good. Anything with Jack and Beef I know I would love.

Bayla: Thank you! I believe I actually got it from a Jack commemorative birthday site now that I think of it. I minored in Arabic, so Russian is Greek to me :)

gcherry: I actually have tried the Laphroaig and liked it. I think a bit too peaty for me (I like the smoke, just not too much of the peat moss flavor, dunno), but it is my friend's favorite. I really enjoyed the Caol Ila, but I'll be sure to add your other suggestion to my list.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I think I'll jump on the whiskey pic bandwagon. Here's my friend in both of his proper hats.

Cheers!

JDaniels - It's a great poster. I think it should say,

"Here's to family!"

A great addition for your bar and very clever. It gives me ideas. My very humble suggestion would be to clean up the speckles on JD'd face. Please, I am an "almost beginner" but that is what I would do. Probably because it is one of the few things I know how to do with elements. BillandCat
