Hello from Virginia!

Hey My name is Emily from Virginia. About a year ago I was playing around with my point and shoot and found how much I liked the close up flower/nature setting. I played around with that for a while and actually had some photographs selected for the local paper. Since then I have updated my camera to a Nikon D40x and also purchased APE 5 and LOVE both. I just got a macro lens for Christmas and I'm spending a little time every day playing with my new toy. I am thinking for next year of upgrading my computer to either something with more memory or an iMac. Does anyone have any advice on what I should look for? I need something that is photo friendly! Thanks so much!

Hi Emily. Welcome to the forum. We would love to see some of your photos. As to the hardware - well you might consider an external hard drive to store your photos on if you don't really want to upgrade your entire system. You can get a 500 gb external for around $129 - $179 depending on the store.

Welcome aboard. I have been in the design industry & have used both pc & mac platforms. What I have found to be the best for design & photos is a Mac. The main reason is that Mac's were primarily designed for graphics. There is very slim chance of picking up a virus from an internet connection, since most ppl use a pc...hackers write viruses that are pc based. Not to mention that macs come with a built in graphics card. Another advantage to a mac is whenever you upgrade your system software you don't have to upgrade your programs. Macs are backward compatible. This is just my opinion... you may want other opinions & to talk to your local dealer. That way you can make a more informed decision for your individual needs. I myself am a photographer that does a lot of freelance graphic design for printing & publishing, as well as web design, so for me a Mac is best.
