Hello,

I am trying to import images from a scanner using E3's organizer. I currently have an HP 5400C scanjet connected to my computer. I also used to have an HP ScanPro 3.1 connect via a network, but I don't have the network connected anymore.

In the E3 Organizer, when I select FILES>GET PHOTOS> FROM SCANNER both the HP 5400C and the HP 3.1 are listed in the drop down box, so I can select the HP5400C and it works just fine without any problem.

I want to be able to name the scanned files as I import them, so instead of selecting Get Photos from Scanner I want to use FILES>GET PHOTOS> FROM CAMERA OR CARD READER, which gives that ability. When I do this the only choice in the drop down box is the old HP 3.1 scanner which is no longer connected to my computer. The HP 5400C does not show up as a choice. However, when I tried scanning by selecting the HP 3.1 it did run my current HP 5400C scanner and the file iseemed to mported correctly.

The problem is that when I scan by selecting HP 3.1 it uses the old 3.1 interface (I'm not sure interface is the correct word). By interface I mean that screen that comes up giving different options about how you want the image to scan (resolution, sharpening, etc.). The old HP 3.1 interface doesn't seem to give as many options as the one for the newer HP 5400C.

I would really appreciate any suggestions for how I can get the HP 5400C to show as a choice when selecting FROM CAMERA OR CARD READER. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Regards, Roberta

that's exactly what it's doing.....it's recognizing the twain driver of the older scanner. I'm wondering if you need to look for an updated driver for the newer one. It definietly has to do with the 'get from camera' option where it probably looks for a compatible driver and it likes the older scanners driver. You do have the newer scanner set as the default scanner for your operating system right ?
I'd say to look on the HP website and see if there are any updates for the newer scanner. If that doesn't work we'll keep diggin...

I had a similiar problem but with Canon... infact at one point I had a conflict between the scanner and camera :?

To resolve it I had to uninstall the old Twain driver and then re-install the latest Twain driver. Canon has a download that sorted the uninstallation safely  , I don't know whether HP has the same.

Hello,

Thanks for the advise about updating the scanner drive. I tried to go on the HP website and download an update, but it seems to be a beyond my technical expertise. I downloaded something, but I have no idea where it went or how to install it. When I checked the scanner properties using th Windows XP control panel it doesn't appear to have updated the driver.

Anyway - using the old interface (for the old scanner) seems to work, so maybe I'll just be satisfied with that - unless there is some downside to this that I am unaware of. Thanks again for the suggestions.
