Yes.
First, make sure you have the latest version of the ACR plug-in from the Adobe website loaded in the proper folder. Here's a link to the download page: ACR Download (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows) . Install with Elements closed
Open Elements
File>Open As: Find your JPEG image file and choose Camera Raw (not Photoshop Raw) in the dropdown for Open As:
Click Open. You'll be taken to the ACR dialog.
When finished making adjustments in ACR, click on Open Image at the bottom to open the adjusted image in Elements for further editing. That's it!

Sue, it's detailed in the instructions on the ACR download page. Here's what it says:
To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0:
1. Exit Photoshop Elements
2. Open My Computer
3. Double-click Local Disk (C:)
4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats
5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 4.
7. Launch Photoshop Elements.

So - what are the advantages of opening the image in RAW as opposed to just using the edit function? Thanks!

Take a look at Michel's post in this thread. That explains the benefit of editing JPEGS in Camera Raw.

Tony,
Thanks! It seems like another step or two for this amature editor though. Editing JPEGS in the normal editor seems to have worked ok for me. The original stays in tact and I have the edited version saved as an "edited" file. Does editing jpegs in RAW give better control? Must be missing something.

Give it a try. You might like the extra controls it gives. I did :)
