pse6 photo downloader

I am making my way thru Photoshop The missing manual. I have run into a problem with the photo downloader. I have been using Canon cameras for a while now. Both an xti and a 5D on an XT sytem. I usually just plug a USB cable into my camera and the Canon Eos Utility starts up by itself and I can select what shots to download and to where.
As soon as I plug in the cable I now get first the pse6 photo downloader on the screen followed by the Eos Utility software. In the PSE6 screen I select the Canon 5d device and it shows a message "no files to download". The Canon screen does show all the photos that are on the the card in the camera. If I remove the card from the camera and insert it into a card reader all is well.
Has anyone had any luck downloading directly from a canon camera? The guy at Adobe could not help me except to infer that it was not an Adobe problem.

Mike,
Just taking a guess at it, the Adobe Photo Downloader and the Canon software are possibly interfering with each other. Try disabling or even uninstalling the the EOS utility.

Ran into a similar problem while helping someone a while back (although I don't have a Canon myself). As I recall I got round it just by turning off the Auto download in the Canon utility and then it worked OK. It's not an uncommon problem when you have more than one downloader installed. I learnt the hard way that installing the software that comes with new cameras is not usually a wise thing to do even if the manual tells you to do it!

Tony, good morning. My computer was having fits recently, as downloaders from Canon, Elements Organizer, Adobe Bridge, and Lightroom all wanted a piece of the action! (And I think Microsoft or Yahoo or something else tried to get in there as well....)

I deleted the Canon thing and disabled the automatic features of Organizer and Bridge. Lightroom won the contest and order has been restored...:)
