Hi

I resently converted from 5 to 6.
Apart from the hopeless grey colour, I'm lost when it comes to the catalog psa file.
I have installed PSE on 3 computers and use an external USB2 connected hard disk to store photos and psa files. In v5 all PSE installations picked up the psa file from the same external hard drive.

After installing v6 and converting my psa file (on the external drive) I cannot find it.
The old one is there, but not the new one. I cannot fnd on any drive.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi again

I think I have found a remedy to my problem.
Probably not according to the "text-book", but it seems to be a work-around.

Ref. http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402592&sliceId=2

Extracts:
Substantial changes were made to the catalog files used in Photoshop Elements 6. Advanced users may want to be aware of some of the changes: the location where catalog files are stored, the file extension, and the internal database format.
....
File extension: Catalog files created by Photoshop Elements 6 use the .PSEDB file extension. Earlier versions of Photoshop Elements used the .PSA file extension.
...
End of extract

In windows I found the new catalogue folder including the various files and copied the complete folder to the external drive.
In PSE6 I then opened File/Catalogs and then "custom localtion" + "Browse".

Hope this can help others as well.

Regards
Ole Bjørn

I've had a (really) hard process in moving PSE6 installation to a new computer. Elsewhere here and on the Adobe forum you can see some of the troubles and the great assistance I've gotten. One huge step remains --- or has occured since.
I know this sounds silly --- but my catalog has vanished. PSE6 still works, except that my FOLDER view is non-functional (in that the images do not correspond to the specified folders). Several days ago I wanted to back up. No catalog was/is to be found in catalog manager. It correctly has the dot on Custom Location, G:\ but the excerpt box from Windows Explorer is empty, cold, grey.
I go to BROWSE and easily locate G:\ and the catalog folder should be visible at root. Not so, although all the other expected folders are.
I go to windows explorer and I find no "catalog" folder but I do see a "catalog.psedb" file and the related files usually in a folder with the psedb file. If I try to open the psedb.file (98,319 KB and correctly showing modification through today), I am given PSE6 (Organizer) as the first choice of executable app. I have NOT tried to open it in this manner. Yet.
If I go back to the Catalog Manager I can find the "My Catalog" folder under C:\D&S\all users\application data\adobe\photoshop elements\catalogs\My catalog but that is not my active catalog. And never has been. I have NOT yet tried to open this catalog either. Ideas anyone?
Should I make a folder at root with some unique name and group the loose files in it?

I went into Windows Explorer, created a new folder, moved all the files with extensions PSE6 has in other catalogs but which were simply "loose" at root level. I then fired up PSE6, went to File|Catalog and, voila, it showed a "new" catalog, named as above, in the grey box. It also said it could not find my catalog. I highlighted the newly discovered catalog, chose to open it, PSE6 chugged right along, opening up and marking this new "catalog" as Current. It appears that everything is there and working --- except for the Folder View which simply does not work.
