Hello everybody!
I figured that I will post my new problem in case some of you might have or have had the same problem.
I have had my Canon IP6700D printer for a while now and have never had any problems with it. Prints very high quality Photo's, has two paper feed areas, a tray and a gravity feed.
Now all of a sudden, my paper starts to go thru (from the top gravity feed) then stops like theres something blocking it. Also, when it stops I get a flashing message that the paper is jammed even though I can pull it out with no pressure and I still get the paper jammed message. Its not transporting into the presure rollers.
I opened up everything and looked inside, there is nothing blocking the paper. I also tried loading up the 8.5X11 paper from the paper tray to see if it jams there also. Yes, it does jam there as well.
Does anybody know how this particular printer tells or feels if there is paper in the transport system? For some reason, I remember a small silver metal wire in previous printers that was touched or hit by the paper. I wonder if this piece or mechanism has been damaged and cant tell if the paper is actually there, and I dont see this anywheere inside.
Thanks in advance.
This printer is still too new to be replaced, and besides, I've been spending money like water lately and dont have the money for a good or better quality photo printer.

Hi Mark
Sorry.. I don't know that particular printer.
something to check
Is the lead edge of the paper damaged?
Look at it very closely see if there is a nick or a bumb that looks like the paper has hit something. It doesn't take much to stop a sheet.
If it is mark free see if there are rollers that are supposed to be turning where the paper stops. They may not be.
If they are not and it may be all but impossible to tell. Then you may have a broken/slipping gear or as you have suggested a sensor arm (little wire or plastic arm) may not be working properly.

It looks like the paper is trying to be dragged into the rollers and only one side is slightly catching. When I pull this paper out, there is a little bit of bent and not really a crumpled edge. Like the left side of the paper is not being dragged in but the right side is. I don't feel a rubber wheel on the left side only the right side is trying to grab the paper and its showing on a crumpled edge. I'm sorry, I left this off the first post.
I was waiting to hear about opening it up before I did. I haven't done that yet to this printer since its been working great till now. I think its on the left side, something is either dirty or hanging up and needs to be cleaned.

I have an HP Photosmart and every once in a while I have the same thing happen. It usually goes back to normal when I restart the computer.

Nope, just tried it after copying your post and inserting it in Notepad. Paper started to feed then stop, and I got the paper Jam message. I'll have to open it up and go in and see if there is anything wrong or just needs a cleaning. Its probably a cleaning, since I've never opened it up since I have this one.

Mark, can you tell whether the paper is getting caught on the entry rollers or is it getting caught further inside. I have a 6700D and my experience was further inside just before the head path. There are some rollers that measure maybe 1/4 inch wide, guessing here, that is where my problems were this past summer. Cleaning these rollers with Rubbing Alchohol resolved my problem.
Also check that your paper is not curling. If room temperature is too high and humidity is too low this will also effect how your paper passes through your printer. Here in the southwest I use a humidifier on a case by case basis. Our winter humidity is sometimes very dry and so is our early summer.
Hope this helps.

I was thinking it was the rollers right before the Heads since the paper did enter the paper path, but on several occasions I had pulled the paper out of the rollers at the paper jam or no paper warning and the paper never entered the path. Absolutely no resistance from any rollers at all.
I was going to go inside the Printer and open it up to clean but I have been too distracted the past two nights and tonight I have a Dental Appointment so it may not be until the weekend before I can get into it.
When you cleaned the rollers did you take them out and the printer apart or just did it from what was accessible thru the back door and the open section from underneath?

Mark, if you lift up the front top access cover, same cover to access the ink cartridges, you will see the rollers that I had problems with, just before the paper enters the head path. They are white and plastic, about a 1/4" in width. You do not have to take the printer apart to clean these rollers. It would be my recommendation that you have a lintless cloth available, otherwise a vacuum cleaner standing by to pick up any fiber left by the cloth. The first time I attempted this, I followed a recommendation by a Canon tech to just wipe the rollers with a clean "cloth" and I had fiber attach itself to the print head after several sheets fed post cleaning. So I had to clean the print head and that was no fun at all.

I tried looking for your printer on the Canon tech website, hoping to get some dissasembly instructions or tech bulletins, but it is not listed among the products I have access to.

A year ago I had the same problem. All seemed ok except that there were some small soft foam rollers which gripped the paper to pull thru. One or two of the rollers had become slightly flattened over time of having been in contact with each other. This slight out of round caused the paper to not feed.
Hope this helps

Gary,
I also didn't see it at first, but when I went hunting around in the Canon site the IP6700D was there and for the exact same price I had paid.
