Hi. I love using pse6 but agree with other users that the background colors are too dark. Is there anyway to make it lighter? Many thanks and happy holiday/s to you.

I had the same problem and came to the same conclusion as you when I was looking at the free 30 day tryout for Photoshop Elements 6. Photoshop Elements 6's, partner Premiere Elements 4, does have interface background lightness/darkness preferences, but not Photoshop Elements 6.

After I purchased Photoshop Element 6 (with its black maze like background that is not too bad after you finally find things and remember where they are), I was given a new computer Monitor. That did wonders for this issue and made me feel like I was looking at a new version of the tryout.

See if you can make any adjustments to your monitor or put a new monitor on your wish list. Some people did suggest that the monitor would make a difference in this matter, but I tended not to buy that theory. But, in my case, it turned out to resolve the issue completely (the difference was in brightness rather than in resolution).

You might want to try this simple test:

If you can't distinguish the A and B tones and the Y and Z tones then your monitor probably needs adjusting.

I have to agree with ATR. With a good monitor, properly calibrated I've grown to really like the PSE6 background. Makes it much easier to concentrate on the image you're working on and I'm now finding going back to older versions looks all wrong.
