Hi"
os is win xp sp2, home ed, Elements 2
help me understand how to fix a situation where after several hours of saving files as JPEG Elements suddenly fails to save in JPEG. It produces a thumbnail that has no image and cannot be opened by any program I have. If I upload currently saved images, the site tells me it is not the correct extension/marker. Somehow, Elements is failing to save files correctly at random!
thanks for your response
Jim

Wendy
thanks for reply Wendy.
Am using 'Save As' (not Save for Web) and have tried checking and unchecking some option boxes in the Save As window but JPEG now saves as an "invalid or unknown" Marker when saved and can not opened by anything including the program that created it (Elements). The image will save as .gif and other selections so I'm having to use those choices for now.........strange new development in Elements which has worked perfectly for many years.
thanks for your help

Hi Jim ..
It sounds as though the file is saving as one file type but with an incorrect file ending ..
The only time this has happened to me is when I am saving one file after another and being a bit lazy instead of typing out the file name I click on another one in the same folder and then just change the name slightly.
... but (and this is the crucial bit) then I forget to change the file type lower down in the Save As box. What happens is that it save the file with a jpg ending but the file really is a psd file ...
Just wondered if maybe you are doing the same thing ??

Dear Wendy:
Please pardon my HYSTERICS.
I have since found a way to save with 'save as'' even if I do not understand what was wrong with my other attempts. It appears that the 'save as' problem is connected to certain files while others save well so I guess I'll just examine the source of my 'bad' files and try various ways of saving them until I figure out the key to this issue. But for now, I have found a way to 'save as' which works and it does not appear to be an Elements problem.........it's something I was doing so I need to check my methods.
Thank you for offering me some feed back on this......
Jim:)
