I have a 10 years old sepia picture, which has started to deteriorate. Originally it was suppose to resemble an 1850-type picture. The picture has developed spot like measles all over the picture. The "healing" tools and the "remove scratch filter" make the defects less noticeable, but leave the skin looking like it was painted, i.e. no texture.

I have Elements 5

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dwyt,

This old photo is almost beyond repair to make it look anywhere near normal. I worked on the low resolution example you posted to see what I could do. I used a lot of the Clone tool, the Dodge and Burn tools, replaced the background with a gradient and added shadows. Fixed one eye, then copied and flipped it and pasted it on the other side. I'm assuming his front teeth are missing so I didn't do anything with that. But this is the best I could do with what I had to work with.

Thanks for trying. He does have a full set of teeth- thats how bad the photo has become.

I scanned the original at a very high resolution but could not do nearly as good job as you did. It is nice to know that even an expert had trouble with it.

Thanks again
