I have a new HP computer with PSE6 and Vista. I have had nothing but grief ever since I installed PSE6 and I am at a point where if I don't find out the solution soon I will delete Vista and then buy and install Windows XP (Yes you can still get it.) I am wondering if the problem might be in my performance settings. The settings say that I have 1672 of available RAM. They also say the ideal range is 919 to 1204. Then it says let PSE use 919. In addition it lists my history states as 50 and my cache levels as 6. I have a feeling that my problems might lbe somewhere in these settings but I don't want to start aimlessly moving sliders around for fear of making things worse. Does anyone out there understand the meaning of these settings and know where they really belong? My computer has three gigs if RAM and 500 gigs of storage with over three hundred gigs available. PSE5 worked like a dream on my old computer with less then one gig of RAM and a full forty gig hard drive. When I tried installing that on my new computer it also acted squirly. I have had nothing but misery with PSE6 Frozen organizer, corrupted photographs etc. Any legitimate help will be appreciated

Hi,
I can't see why you're having this trouble with PSE 6 and Vista.
I use both and also PSE 5 and have had no trouble using either.
When you installed 6 did you make sure your Anti Virus was off, if you didn't it can cause problems.
Sorry not to be of more help.
Kev.

Hi,
I installed PSE6 Yesterday, running Vista 2gig ram, two 120 gig drives, I set the scratch disk to D drive which is empty. I bumped the cash upto 8, and memeory usage to 85%. Not had any probs yet.
I also disabled the Anti Virus software while installing.

It might help a bit if you explained "squirly" to us. What is it doing/not doing??

Can't help with the OP's problem as I don't have Vista but thought it worth pointing out that if your looking to increase the available memory then bumping up the cache levels to 8 is the wrong way to go. That preference sets the number of zoom levels that Elements caches in order to speed things up when you zoom in and out. If you're tight on memory or tend to have a number of images or other programs open at once and use memory intensive things like some of the filters then you need to set that number lower not higher for better performance.

I have Vista and PE 6 and everything is running smoothly. I also would like more details on the problems you are experiencing.
When you installed PE 6 did you install as Administrator? I followed the advice I received early on to always Right Click on .exe install files and then left click on run as Administrator.
Good Luck - hope you get everything running smoothly.:)
