problems with the organizer

I changed from PSE3 to PSE5 several months ago....now have problems. Most are with the organizer...

I look for files and they are gone. I use the "add unmanaged files to the catalog"...over and over. My files keep disappearing..usually after the computer is off. This is time consuming and agravating.

To compund it, I bulk moved many files to the external hard drive..more of the same problem and sometimes I need to reconnect.

I think I just want to unintall and reinstall and start over. Any Suggestions?:eek:.

Also, when I go to file/ catalog/...the catalogs appear, but do not open.:mad:

You need to be much more specific. Where are you looking for these files? In the organizer? Or via Windows? What do you mean "they are gone"? There is no sign of them in the Organizer? Or do the files appear in the organizer with a question mark instead of thumbnail of the photograph? Or something else.

External hard drives are often problems, as they can change drive letters when you reconnect them or when you reboot the computer. In that case, the Organizer would tell you it can't find the files. Search the archives of the forum for suggestions on how to handle this.

Let me start over.

when I say the picture is diappeared...I mean from the organizer. The original files exist. When I am in the files view in the organizer and click a folder...nothing appears..then I hit the add unmanaged files. Sometimes they appear on que, sometimes not. Sometimes, the same file will appear in the same circumstance a few days later upoin hitting unmanaged files. Next time on the computer, same thing over again.
I have had the problem with the EHD files even when they were originally on the EHD.
what will happen if I uninstall and reinstall and what precautions to take.
