View Full Version : Saved a Slide Show, where is it?

I feel so silly and frustrated! I created a slide show and while working on it, I selected Save Project several times. Today I go to add a few photos and I can't find it in Organizer to open it! Last night, it was at the top of the Organizer (I opened and closed it several times.). How can I find it?
Oh, I'm using PSE6.

In 2 I can use Find>By Media Type>Creations.

There is probably the equivalent in 6.

Karin Sue,
Thanks for the reply. I have tried that. In my Find>By Media Type. There are x selections: Photos / Videos / Audio / Projects / PDF / Items with Audio Captions. I've searched everyone of them... I'll try any thing else you can think of. I spent all last night creating a slide show...

I am hoping that this will be an easy one with a happy ending. If not, I think that you may have deleted the Slideshow Project from the Organizer by mistake.

1. If all you did during creating the slideshow was hit the Save Project button, then you saved the "Slide Show Project" to the Organizer and that is where it should be ready for you to click it to open and edit or output.

The possibility that I am hoping for is that you added more items to the Organizer after you saved the slideshow with the Save Project button. Then only the new items will be showing in the Organizer. If that is the case, then you can view all (including the lost saved slideshow project) by pressing the "Show All" at the top.

See if that applies. If not, can use remember anything else you did when you closed the program?

Check closely for the thumbnail, it should have the Slide Show Project icon at its top right corner.

Add on....there are also two arrows at top left of screen. The one selected in blue. You could try clicking on the arrow that goes in the other direction (it will then assume the blue color) to see if it brings back your slide show project for viewing.

My eyes are getting tired, I've been trying to find this for 2 hours now. I tried staring at each photo to see the slide show icon, but didn't find it on the first pass. I did save by pressing the Save Project. From memory, it's on the left on an upper menu bar?
I did do something funky. As I finished, I noticed that any photo that I had rotated to the left or right now had today's date on them. I found the command to Adjust Date & Time and selected to 'Change to match file's date & time' - for all the photos in the Organizer. Did I move it somewhere doing that?

I am going to try what you said you did and see what happens.

I tried exactly what you said you did. That did not make the Slide Show Project thumbnail disappear in the Organizer while I was still in the program or closing and then reopening.

I will think about this some more, but I am going in the direction that somehow you deleted that Slide Show Project. I hope that I am wrong.

Did you ever actually see it in the Organizer as the saved Slide Show Project before you closed the program the first time?

Wendy,

Go to View>Media Types... and verify that the Creations checkbox is ticked (that's the PSE5 menu location, anyway). If it isn't, Organiser won't display slideshow thumbnails, even if you search for creations/projects.

Hopefully your slideshow will magically appear!

Wendy,

That is an excellent suggestion from Nick. That same path is there in Photoshop Elements 6 Organizer, under View/Media with check off spots for:
Photo
Video
Audio
Projects
PDF
When I installed and opened the program here, everything except Audio was checked.

Everything was checked, excluding the Audio. Good thought! Keep the coming. I know it's in there somewhere; it has to be.

Current thought.....

Try to remember anything else you might have done besides the Adjust Date...

Under wild guesses:
Look under File/Catalog and see how many catalogs you have. Just one that says "current" or more?

Wendy,

Oh well, It was just a thought!:(

A couple of others (all in PSE5-speak, I'm afraid):

1) Try doing File>Catalog>Recover, which housekeeps the catalog

2) Try selecting the Hidden tag, in case you accidentally applied it to the slideshow

3) In View>Media Types, switch off everything except Creations. That'll cut down the clutter that needs to be searched through visually.

4) Make sure that there are no tags selected or a date range set that could be limiting what you see (you've probably done that already, I know...)

One other thought - try creating a very small slideshow, saving it, and checking that you can see it in Organiser. That might establish whether there's problem with finding just one show or all of them...

Scratching my head, rather, here..

Thanks again. I'm at the point of giving up. One of the main reasons I bought PSE6 was for the slide show. I just love them.

I did the Catalog Recover, no errors found, and only one Catalog listed. Hidden is checked. Excellent idea to uncheck everything but Projects. It found no slide show.

Before I spent the night working on a 'perfect' slide show, I started one with just 20 photos to make sure it would function after closing, deleting, adding, reopening, etc. Everything went well...

Wendy,
Is that 20-photo slide show still there? You did not, by chance, update it and it now also contains the 'perfect' slide show?

Yes, I opened, saved and closed it a few times. I had created a 'blank' page as the first page and put a bright yellow duck along with text so I could find it easily in the future. I've given up. I'll probably download Picassa or some other program to do my slideshow. Thanks for the help, I'm just too frustrated to deal with it right now.

Wendy,

The only remaining idea I have is to reset your Organiser preferences. Sometime the preferences file becomes corrupted, and causes odd behaviour.

In PSE5, the Organiser preference file is the hidden file C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Organizer\psa.prfs. To reset, rename that file to something else (e.g. psa.old) and restart Organiser,. It will rebuild the file.

Unfortunately, I don't know what the equivalent file is in PSE6. Perhaps a PSE6 owner can assist?

I assume that you're positive that you didn't delete the show accidentally? (There should have been a confirmation dialog before that happened, so it isn't easy to do. Just a long shot.)
