I have noticed that more often than not Elements 5 won't delete the pictures from my camera when I import them. I have it set to verify and then delete. Once it does this, the images start to build up on my camera. If I run the import a second time it tells me that all of the pictures are already imported, tells me they are stored in a certain directory on my hard drive, and then does nothing further?

I would not let Elements or any other software get near my camera... Delete the pictures from within the camera.

I agree...I always delete the pictures in the camera, never with another piece of software!

I have to agree with the others, it is the one of the first things I learned when I started using Photoshop earlier this year.
I have heard that letting a computer delete your photos can actually damage your memory card.

I've learned that you should always format your card before each shoot.

My advice would be don't let anything but your camera delete images. It's not also necessary to Format each time prior to using.
