View Full Version : Problem with Elements 5 on Vista HP 32 bit

Hi,

I've just installed Elements 5 on my new vista laptop. I've also installed the Elements 5.0.2 update that makes it compatible with vista home premium (32 bit).

All my photo's are now stored on an external hdd so that I can stash the hdd somewhere if I don't need it when I'm using the laptop.

Anyway, today I imported all my photo's into the elements organiser which I'd used on my old XP PC. They had all imported fine, together with the tags which I still have to sort out, so I thought I'd do that tonight. So I switched off and thought nothing more of it until I came back to the laptop later on...

I start the laptop up, with the hdd powered up and Elements 5 hangs when I start up the organiser, and it gives me some erros about my catalog. I managed to get in to the organiser again, but I can't really remember how so I re-imported the photo's and again, the organiser hangs when I start it up and I get catalog errors.

I've tried using the my catalog-undo, creating a new catalog and uninstalling PSE5 and reinstalling it again.

Could it be the external hdd (the editor has no problems with it)? Or is it the elements 5/vista thing? Does it matter if the catalog file is in a different location to my photo's?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I gave that a try, but I can't even get into the organiser to tell it where to look :(

Must be a registry entry somewhere perhaps that is messing things up.

Ah well, Windows Picture Gallery is nice. I'll use that instead!

Well...somehow or other I seem to have sorted it. Not really sure what I did, but I think it was along the lines of your suggestion happysnapper!

So far so good, the organiser seems to be behaving itself. But windows picture gallery is on stand buy, just in case!
