Hotshoe

I have a Canon Rebel Xt and I'm thinking I need to add a hotshoe flash to my gear bag. I don't want to spend the $300 I've seen most listed for, but today I saw a SunPak hotshoe for Canon in Bestbuy for $99.00. Is this a "you get what you pay for", or is it a good starter flash?

There are some good third party external flashes out there. You want to be sure that it is fully compatible with your camera and offers TTL so that it is automatic. Sometimes, third party flashes work but don't offer all the features of the manufacturers own flashes. You have to decide how important that is compared to the savings.
