View Full Version : Camera download to two pre-existing files

Hi,
Having created a file structure I want to download to the “Camera/RAW Unprocessed” file for a minimalist back up, as a separate first step. No processing of any kind wanted, just to output the ‘as is’ photos.
Download is from my Nikon Coolpix L3 with USB 2.0 used before.
It looks like only Organiser Get Photo can be used but how will I avoid Organiser doing anything to this initial first step but output. If it creates thumbnails or whatever, will I be able to get rid of them?
My intention is to immediately afterwards, use Organiser to download again for full processing and output to the “Camera/Processed” file.
Better yet, will Organiser allow the thumbnails and data to be output to that pre-existing “Camera/Processed” file too, a great saving of time?

Derek....
Not entirely sure of your questions but....
When you use the Adobe Downloader you can put the files into whatever folder you like.
The Organiser only contains thumbnails not your images so I'm not sure what your problem is there.
Processing a RAW file doesn't make any changes to it. The actual processing steps are contained in either the Elements Database or a seperate XMP file. So I'm not clear why you want two copies of the RAW file.
You can of course finish processing the RAW file in ACR and then save a TIF, PSD, JPEG (or whatever) into whatever folder you like.

Colin,
Thanks for so quick an answer. The main thing is knowing it can be done, I have a horror of trying to do the impossible. The problem seems only to be the language and I am used to that in MS developement system etc. British English and American English. Generally OK when I am in the US and face to face.
I am getting back to PSE after a year when 2 of my machines simply gave up together and left me with a bad BU situation for PSE5. The cost and time to get a brillient machine running reliably, then a massive Word job has taken my time.
This explains my emphasis on big file BU, I do video as well. Also something I have often found in life - what turns out to be a dummy run on doing something substantial and new is efectively is a second chance to do it much better.
Will download immediately, strike while the iron is hot.

Derek.....
One possible suggestion for you is once you've downloaded all your Raw images to a folder of your choice and they appear in the Elements Organiser, you can immediately attach a Tag to them called 'Unprocessed' as well as Tags suitable to the subject. Then as you process them you can remove the 'Unprocessed' Tag.

I know this is a PSE board, but if you are looking for a better filing/organizer solution you should look in to Adobe Lightroom. The photos are stored and sorted there along with some editing software, but then you would send it to PSE for any fine tuning. Its a must have for photographers.

In my opinion Lightroom is an excellent Raw processing program but it's let down by a poor Library Module.
Of course it depends on your needs. Currently I have to use both Lightroom and Elements

Colin,
That sounds a good idea!
I did try to download and fluffed it first time but saw enought to get it right next time. It simply colapsed, nothing lost or gained as far as I could see.

Light room is too expensive for a simple task i should be able to do myself, but thanks for the suggestion.
