Jon
What program and version are you using? The instructions can vary a little based on that information.

Hi John ...
Its fairly easy to do ... does the image you want to add the shadow too fll the whole of the canvas ??
if so then you will have to increase the canvas size.
If you need detailed instructions then I am sure that someone will walk you through it :)

Hi Jon,
I created that look in CS3.
Just worked on it in Elements 5.
I've tried to write it, easy enough for you to try, hope I've explaind it in easy steps.
1. Open your Image.
2. Duplicate it (Ctrl J).
3. View Image at 25%.
4. Create a new layer, 1st Icon in the layers
pallett.
5. Goto Artwork and effects, Third icon should
be special effects. In the left drop down menu
select Photo Effects.
6. Click recessed Frame then click apply. You
should now have four layers in the layers pallett.
7. Your Image should now have a thin
border on it.
8. Too resize the border to the thickness you
require, goto Image transform/ free transform. (
Ctrl T). Make sure you have you top layer
selected.
9. You should now have little square boxes
around your border. Place you pointer over one
of the boxes and drag in or out while holding
down you left mouse key.
10. When satisfied with the size of your border,
hit enter or click the green tick.
11. Now grab your paint bucket, double click the
foreground colour to pick your colour.
12. Click inside the border and it should fill with
the chosen colour.
13. Go back up to the special effects pallett,
click drop shadow then apply. As you do this
watch the layers pallett. You should see a black
icon appear.
14. This is the fun bit, double click the little
Icon. You should get a style settings box pop up.
15. Now you can play till you get the effect you
want, I used bevel and then played with the
sliders.
I'm off for a Cup of tea now lol, let us know how you got on, if you get stuck just ask.
