Hello -

For the last year I have been trying to get my photos organized and to safely delete all the duplicates (I think I have managed to save each photo about three times each with different names so I can't figure out which is the correct one to save). I keep running into the same problem that I cannot figure out:

Often, when I click on a folder (one left click) in organizer with
the intent to open it to see the pics, I get the following message:

"The folder being renamed contains files that are not visible in the
Organizer. Are you sure you want to rename this folder?"

I then think I haven't downloaded the pics into Organizer and so I go
to "File/Get photos/from folders or files". Organizer gets the photos
and then it says "The items listed were not imported" and the reason
is because the "File already exists in the catalog."

Any ideas?

As a side note, I had backed all my photos up about a year ago and the "new" EHD crashed and then a couple of weeks later so did my computer. Most were saved on CD's so I was mostly ok. I'm trying now to back up my pics again in an organized way without backing up over 15,000 photos which I know are mostly duplicates.

Thanks,

Stacy

Stacy....

The first message you get indicates that there are perhaps files in the folder that Elements knows nothing about. These are not necessarily image files. It's possible the folder may contain other data - a text file or something else.

Elements provides a warning to indicate that if you do rename the folder another application may not be able to find the other files in that folder.
