View Full Version : Do you lose data when you rotate photo?

Hello,

I have been reading a book about PSE 4 and it mentions that you will get a warning when you rotate a photo. The warning will tell you you will lose data when you rotate the photo.

I use PSE 5 and have rotated quite a few photos as I have brought them into Organizer. I have never seen a warning when I rotate photos.

So my question is: do you lose any date/information when you rotate a photo in PSE 5?

Thanks, Bill

Welcome to the forum. I have not used 4 for quite some time but have to admit I never saw such a warning. Maybe someone will be along shortly who will have an answer for you.

Hi Bill,

I have PSE4 and PSE5 loaded on my computer. I just now rotated a photo several times in 4 with no warnings.
I am no expert on this, but I would say there is no loss of data. Perhaps someone with more knowledge will be along soon to give us more info on this.

Hi ...

If you rotate an image and then you resave it as a jpg then you do lose some data (just as you do with any jpg save) BUT it really is miniscule and unless you resave over and over again then you really won't see the difference :)
