Hi, some of you saw this when I first started on it, but after several methods I settled on this one. Hope it looks as good on your screen as it does mine - have had issues before with photos appearing too dark on others monitors?? Original damaged with parts missing - had to recreate some stripes, dress collar, etc...
Hope you like,
Rhonda

I love it. It looks great.Whoever took the photo really captured timeless memories here. The picture pose is so simple but it tells a story of a lifetime.

Is this too difficult a project for a novice? Also how did you do it please?:):):)

Thanks For Asking - I Rarely Get A Reply From My Posts For Some Reason. I Tried Various Methods, But Found The Online Tutorial In The Subscribers Area "colorizing A Photo Using Gradient Maps". It Was Much Faster Than The Previous Attempt.
It Just Takes A Lot Of Patience And Time!!

Christell, the photo was most likely taken (or at least setup) by my grandfather. He was into photography as a hobby - but was way, way ahead of his time. I have several nice photos to play with.

That's a problem for us 'newcomers' because we cannot join the subscribers and therefore cannot access the information! :( Is there anywhere else we can access it?:)

Great job on that.:)
Restoration is great and the colourization is perfectly subtle.

Rhonda, that's a beautiful job! Definitely looks like either a hand-tinted black-and-white or an Autochrome, two techniques that were popular in the early decades of the 20th century.

I was a new subsciriber and was able to access the tutorials and still can, but don't know how you could get them. I thought it was all free now as long as the website is up. Does anyone know?
The tutorial was one of Wendy's and used gradient MAP adjustment layers. Be sure to select MAP and not just gradient. You make rough selections of each area ie, skin, dress, shirt, etc. and add the colors throught gradient mapping adjustment layers. I found the gradient mapping to be a little confusing so Good Luck.
Can someone more knowledgeable than me help??

As far as I understand. If you were a subscriber at the time of the closing announcement you will be until it closes. It is still subscriber only though so no freebies.:)
If I am mistaken, please someone correct me.

Yes, Gary you are correct - I sent PM to Jon to confirm. Subscribers can still go there, but no one else.
