Hi Jon, is the entire catalog oldest first? You can change that by going to view>arrangement>date(newest first). I don`t know if it changes the catalogs also because I am a beginner also. Hoe it helps.

I have Photoshop Elements 3 and am tryout Photoshop Elements 6, but do not Photoshop Elements 5. So, view my comments in that context.
In Elements 3, 4, and 5, the Organizer has a tag as well as a collection section. In Elements 6, the collection concept is taken over by "Albums". Collection or Albums are by nature places were you can keep your photos in a numbered order so they do not jump around every time you open the collection. So, it is not surprising that, when you open a collection or album (as the case as may be) and click on the spy glass icon to view the collection, you would find the photos sorted and numbered/placed as when the collection was created/or modified last by actually changing the position of image(s).
In other words, for Collections, choice of viewing that collection in oldest or newest view seems to be just for that, viewing. So, once you close out of that viewing session, followed by reopening your collection, the view will be the "originally placed" sort, not the oldest or newest view. In contrast, the tag section appears to retain whatever you set for oldest or newest view.
Check it out and see if other forum users agree. That is what seems to be happening.

ATR thanks for your input i guess that option only applies if you keep adding photos and moving them around within the collection folder. And then you have that option to move them all around to show the olest first.Does that make sense or am i trying to convince myself that thats how it works? thanks jon
