Hi Toni,
well I'm really glad you posted, I think they turned out well, I particularly like the second one. :)
I can see the pattern repeating on your butterfly - I'm not sure why, I can only think that the 'displace' file saved somehow was different to the layer (below the photo) that you used then to load the selection and put on the new layer.
Could it have got loaded/applied as a tile or pattern to repeat like that? I don't know really as it hasn't happened to me so that is only a suggestion.
Maybe experimenting with the sliders on the distort>glass would show the effect more.
I spent a long time on this one too and did a couple which I wasn't too happy with even though they did what they were supposed to. Then I had a break and it seemed to click.
I found there were 2 things going on - one was left brain to logically follow the steps of the tut and then the other part was more creative right brain thinking ok that's the technique, now what can I do with it.
I like the coloured effect on the second one, nice blending result :)

Hi Nancy, :)
thanks for your kind words, it is a pleasure to be part of this forum and although I haven't been here as long as many people, I feel I have learned so much from the generosity, kindness and sharing that is part of life here that it is good to be able to try to contribute and give something back, and it's fun too :D

Glenda, your beach sunrise just oozes tranquility, very relaxing :)
Julie, I really like the way the colours have blended and come through the flowers, very nice effect, and very nice brushes too :).
I found this technique a bit addictive once I got into doing the stages automatically,

Glenda, I particularly like yours. Lovely - hope you don't mind if I 'borrow' your idea for my next one

Thanks, Lisa ... I love this technique! I have lots of ideas running through my mind on how to use this.
Toni, thank you! I'm flattered that you want to "borrow" it. Please feel free ... and let me know what you do with it. I love how this forum inspires us all to take our ideas to new levels!

Julie, those are very pretty flowers, wow, it's working really well :)
Shell, that looks very effective. It's a bit frosty here this morning, England's green land is just starting to show through the white.
Yes, I'd imagine you can use pretty much anything for your 'photo' layer. I experimented with different photos depending on the colour I wanted, but I also did a couple using a 'texture' photo and tweaked the hue/sat to bring out different colours. I haven't tried it with a gradient, but patterns would work too I think.
I'm going to have to do some more with some different brushes this afternoon now, you've all inspired me :)

Zeria, I really like your gliding pic and the text looks super :).
Bill, lovely shot and text - I like the little sparklies you added, you definitely know your onions :D :D (do you have that expression in the US?)

I have heard it only on occasion Lisa. Thanks for reminding me of it. Between this one and 'stepping up to the crease' I'll become quite the international cliche' dropper!!
Thanks for the nice comments!

Thanks Lisa ---
I live close to a small airport and frequently the paragliders fly nearby. Usually I have to race to get my camera---on this particular day I was ready.:D

This one is very hard (to me). I did one and the shape I picked was all wrong-could not find that fleur de lis he used.....anyway, I threw it out and will try again another day this week I hope.
On the upside-I found I could bring QT movies (which is what this video was)into iDVD and burn it to a dvd. This made it much easier as I could watch the video and pause and go back as needed. So I can sit comfortably on my couch while I work. ;) Even with that I can see where taking notes is a plus.
So thanks for the challenge, hopefully I will get one done. If not, I can enjoy all the beautiful works by everyone else.

Hi Victry1,
I'm sure when you get another chance it will all click into place :)
and you can use any shape you like, it doesn't have to be the one in the video. I found I needed to watch the video a couple of times (and make a couple of notes) to get the steps in the right order, so don't despair :)

Debra, beautiful colours in your sunset and the text looks great.
Marie, what a superb turkey! Happy Thanksgiving to you :)
I don't recall seeing a cornucopia shape, but if I come across one, I'll let you know,

Hi Lisa,
thanks for the compliment.
I Actually found a cornucopia on the Adobe Exchange.
Bummer - some really nice shapes like family at dinner, pilgrim hat,
cornucopia etc. - but the shapes are a differnt type.
You only can use them with a solid color.
I put a thread in Beginners:

Thanks for running this challenge.
This one was really great.
Quite a few steps, but fun.

Bayla, that looks good to me even if it is not what you expected it to look like :)
Coco - I just love the colours and effects you are getting!
Kim, your swirly/spiral shape really looks good, very effective :)
all very inspirational, thanks for sharing

Kim,
I love your image. I was trying to do something very similar myself - the effect I was aiming at was to give the idea of looking through one of those old fashioned turn of the century Victorian windows - I think they are called 'leaded lights'...but I wasn't happy and trashed my versions. Your version comes closer to what I was hoping to achieve!

Thanks for the encouragement Bayla - I tried text and 2 other shapes before I got something I was happy with. Your flower was what got me looking at my garden pictures, thanks.
Thanks again to Marie for giving me the nudge to try this week's challenge.
Lisa's snowflakes have me looking for a way to use the glass effect on the Christmas card.

Thanks, Lisa for your kind words. I love this technique and I agree with Kim that I want to do something with the snowflakes for Christmas.

Hi Kim, see, told yah it was fun!
I like your swirls, looks great.
I also like your idea of the glass look for Christmas cards.
That sounds really good.
I didn't get the distortion the way I wanted.
I'll have to make another appointment with Corey's video.
Happy Thanksgiving All!
