I have a friend with PSE 6.0 and she says when she drags a photo up from the Photo Bin to her project image, it creates a frame around it. Is there a way around this, to get no frame?

3 options:

1. You can either drag down into the photo bin to the layout.
2. You can open the two side by side (Window->Image->Tile or Cascade) and use the Move tool to drag from one to the other.
3. You can use File->Place (which will use the file name as the layer name).

Diana,
I'm having the same problem, all I want to do is take the photo from the photo bin to open it. (In Cascade Mode) with no other photo open-but photos in the bin-if I try t move one into the editing palette it inserts it into one of the other photos as "framed". It's driving me crazy.

Dragging up inserts the dragged file into the current file in the workspace as a frame layer.

If you are trying to open a file (make it the current file in the editing palette), you need to double click on it in the Project Bin.

Thanks Sue--I thought I'd had tried that-but will try again.

But note when dragging it up there are NO files in the workspace--only in the bin.

Sherry

Mine works .. opens properly as long as I don't drag it to another photo.

Here's what mine is doing:
No photos/files in workspace
--maybe 5 photos in bin
--pick one to move into workspace--as I drag it, one of the other files opens and the one I'm trying to drag gets put into it.

Ok

Get this.. I just tried dragging from the bin onto a photo .. no frame???

It still came in as a smart object. I am sure I had a frame last time I tried it.

I dragged one image from the photobin into the workspace with 6 in the photobin, can report no problem. Sherry are you XP or Vista? (I really don't know that it makes a difference as to O/S)

The Project bin in PE 6 is not the Photo bin of previous versions. Adobe, for whatever reasons, has set it up so that anything you drag out of the bin is treated as a pass-through image layer for a photo book/creation (ie it becomes a sort of semi-smart semi-vector object that won't behave like a regular image anymore). You can't use the bin for dragging anymore for adding regular layers to regular images. (Have to drag from the layers palette instead, or copy/paste.)

Thanks, Barbara, for that clarification.

I knew I wasn't crazy---well, okay, I wasn't positive I wasn't crazy--am I talking to myself now? Do you have a padded room I could go to?

It looks like you can drag a photo from the project bin to the workspace without any files in the workspace and it will open. If you drag a second photo and do not drag on top of previous one, it will open also. If you drag a photo on top of a photo, it will create a smart object layer labeled with file name. I have been using the double-click method to open additional photos and then dragging needed layers to the appropriate file.
Surely different than 5.0!

I'm so confusssed! Last night was my first night to use PSE6 I saw this same thing. I didn't know what it was doing. Barbara can you explain that one more time - type slow - I'm trying to grasp it all. I just am not understanding what you are saying we need to do. Thanks!

Marilyn,

If you drag DOWN from the workspace to a photo/layout in the Photo/Project bin, it will just add that to the item you dragged to. If you drag UP from the Photo/Project bin to a photo/layout in the workspace, PSE will create a special frame layer.

If you want a frame drag "up", if you don't drag down.

Hi Marilyn ..

I think this may be the simplest way for you ..

Open up the image that you want to add into the other one
and Do Select>All
Then do Edit>Copy

Open up the image you want to add it to
and do Edit>Paste ..

... and there you go :)

Thanks Wendy. That looks simple enough, I think I can handle doing that!

Ok--if you want to add it into another photo I understand.

But what if you are working with several photos and you DON'T want to add into another photo. I need to work on several photos that eventually I'm adding to a layout, but I need to edit each separately. As I click on one photo in the photo bin it automatically adds it to another photo in the bin. (nothing open in the workspace). All I want to do is move it into the workspace.

Hey Sherry

Do you have the organizer open as well? ... just trying to duplicate your setup

Yes,

Have tried --also have used cascade mode, max mode, tile mode

Not at home-so can't recreate here--I'll try again when I get home as well.
