Thank you.

Short and sweet - KW made the decision to discontinue the Newsletter in early 2008. Originally the forum would remain, then it was decided to close that as well as the subscriber area when the newsletter goes away. The forum has now been migrated to this site and will remain open even after the PET site closes. We will be notified how subscription balances will be handled in the near future. Matt has suggested a number of options and none are yet written in stone so no point putting everything back out there again until it is definite. Jon has been working like a madman all weekend to get the forum up and going and has done a fantastic job. He surprised us all over the weekend with the addition of a gallery as well that is available to ALL forum members. There are a number of threads relating to the whole episode but, in a nutshell, that's it.

What?
Are the tutorials gone? I paid for 2 years recently. I want my money back.

I believe the tutorials are still accessible, and will be into next year. Also, a variety of subscription refund options are being developed.
PLEASE can a full explanation of this go up - people are coming in new and asking the same questions........

Everything but the forums remains on the old site. You can access any content you used to.

Hello -
I haven't been here for a month or so and signed on to figure out which is the last newsletter mailed to make sure I am up-to-date. I haven't been able to find out if Vol 4 #5 is the last issue or not, but I am shocked and surprised to learn Elements User is closing. I've read a number of posts, but am wondering where I can read the original post announcing the closure?
Can someone tell me if I have the latest edition?
Thanks kindly,
Stacy

I know I am going to hate posting these links of the original posts ... but you did ask. And Vol 4 #6 was my last issue that I received.

Thank Annie, since I just received V4N6 a couple of weeks ago ... I had to go with what I have at the time. But now that I know V4N7 is hot on its heels ... I can hardly wait.
Thanks,

Umm .. Wow! I have been gone a while too and was quite surprised! I had to go search for "why" and so glad this question was stickied! I too am paid up to Aug '09 :o I am sure the refund options will be fair. I am so sorry to see the old site and the newsletter go but more importantly so glad to see the communty here. You all are what makes the site what it is no matter what it looks like or if there is a paper newsletter.

Thank you Dane for answering both my questions. It was helpful to read the original posts from Matt. I am also glad to know that I am only missing one newsletter.
While I didn't come to this site on a regular basis, when I did I found the subscribers, especially the experts, kind and free with advise and instructions which I found invaluable.
I thank those who have developed the other website, what a community here!
I'll miss the newsletter as I waited in much anticipation for the "next" one, but I understand that sometimes we cannot control or delivery of private services and products. How many times has your favorite products at Trader Joes (or some other market) suddenly vanish not to be returned (still hoping the key lime truffles covered with rich dark chocolate will come back although it's been about 4 years now)?

That's right - I'd forgotten. Sarah Kennedy revived them, didn't she??
They were lovely. As a child, I used to lick the cream off, then scoop out the cake, and finally have a lovely chocolate cup to eat. I used to end up in a sticky disgusting mess. Bit like eating Creme Eggs. :D

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto, Christine. I joined for the newlsetter, but it quickly became just a nice little perk to all the wonderful information and frendship I received in the fourm..
I've been away for a while due to illness and work, and was quite shocked when I dropped in and found I was on a new site altogether.
I too am missing a few people, Shari and Kay, haven't seen a post from either of them during this time of turmoil. Does anyone know if they're ok.

Hi guys- yes, I am still here. I haven't been as active since August because of health issues, but I'm now trying to get back into PSE and all the other things I've missed! I've been lurking some, though, and trying to follow all the developments on this site. Glad that our "home" is staying in place.
I, too, keep Shari in my prayers.

Eddie,
Jane (Wags) set up a new forum (PCEC) when we all thought that the PET one was closing. Then the PET one was move here and renamed Elements Village. A (very) few people have left this forum, some are straddling both, some are just sticking around here;).....either way, we now have two forums....

I've read the posts about the demise of the subscriber portion of the Photoshop Elements site and I looked around to see if I could purchase the 21 day online training in DVD or some other format to no avail. Does anyone know if this resource is being offered to people who can't subscribe now? I went to Kelby site and don't see it there either. Any help someone can provide would be appreciated. TIA

Cathy, we are all disappointed and we pouted and sobbed and then got over it, but we will all miss the subscriber area. It was a great learning tool for Elements. But hopefully there will be some good tutorials out there that we can share here in the forum.

and suddenly I feel like the old man who woke up after 20 years to see everything changed:D
I'm so sorry (for myself and everyone) about the impending loss of the tutorials and videos and newsletter - I was enjoying them immensely, even if not participating too much here on the forum. And I am so thrilled, by the way, to see that the forum will survive (on cue: break out into song:
At first I was afraid I was petrified
Kept thinkin' I could never live without you by my side [insert lyrics I can't remember]...
But I will surviiiiive!!!)
And now that I've come close to losing even the forum, I'll be sure to be more participatory and appreciate what I've got! Looking forward to seeing everyone's fab pics in the new gallery and to spending some time updating my own:)

I wonder of one of the options offered in lieu of refunding money for subscriptions would be the ability to download or get dvd's for courses we have taken. I took four of the courses. I didn't realize you could down load and make copies of them. I though I could take them again in the future if necessary. I would be happy to get copies of some or all of these in place of a partial subscription refund.

I'm pretty confused about old site/new site. I don't know what I'll do without the tutorials. Is there any way to download some of them? I guess I won't ask "why"--although I almost cried when I found out this is going away. I don't write in the forum much, but I LOVE the tutorials.
Is there ANY way to reverse your decision? Could we all pay a higher subscription fee or something? I love(d) the magazine that came with this--and it has been like having someone right by my side always guiding me through experimenting with a lot of really fun things!
I guess there's no way to get down on our knees and BEG...but if I could I would.

I just put up an FAQ (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb_why_register#faq_challengeresponse) about challenge/response spam prevention. Earthlink somehow thought this was a good idea and I have been seeing a fair amount of it with Village users. This kind of system is incompatible with the forums and a good deal of other internet services. It's a terrible idea and will definitely leave you in the dark more often than not. You will not be able to successfully register or recover your login with this feature turned on.
If you're having problems receiving email from the forums and have this feature turned on in your Earthlink account, this is most likely the cause. I know Comcast users were having some trouble, but it was another matter and has already been fixed. This one isn't as easy since it's a client side problem.
On a personal note, I will not fill out the form for Earthlink even for messages that come directly to me. It's insulting to have to spend my time to help you cut down on spam, especially when you don't tell me I'll have to do that beforehand. So if you email for support and have this turned on you will not see my response.

After being away from here for about a year I decided to come back and even bought PSE 6 last month. I was about ready to re subscribe only to get hit with this bomb shell!!
WHY? Why are they getting rid of the only magazine that caters to the Elements community? There are countless magazines that are for regular Photoshop. Does anyone know of any others for Elements? I find the paper copy very useful as there are times when I do not have net access.
I guess on the plus side I am now saving $49 a year.

Hofy3D,
The Newsletter and the Subscriber's area is going to continue! After much public demand they decided not to discontinue the Newsletter. You can re-subscribe if you wish. When the initial announcement of the closure of the website and newsletter came out, the web team changed the subscription page saying they were no longer accepting subscriptions. Now that has changed and they are accepting subscriptions.

Charles,
That's good to know.
I am surprised though that this is the only publication dedicated to Elements.
Like I said in my last post, there are several publications for Photoshop, and few even touch on Elements. Most people can only afford Elements so you would think there would be more demand for it.
