View Full Version : How can I make blue eyes bluer?

I am trying to brighten blue eyes and can't seem to make it work. I selected the eye with magnetic lasso, then Ctrl U to use hue/sat, but not much change was shown. Any suggestions?

Have tried selecting the eyes and putting them on their own layer and going to Enhance>Adjust Color/Increase blue. You can also sharpen the eyes on their own layer. That's just on of many ways change color, brighten, sharpen, but this is the quickest easiest way.

Thanks a lot! I think I had the wrong layer selected when I tried the first time:rolleyes:.

Once you have the eyes copied on to their own layer you might want to try a "multiply" blend mode. It may seem a little extreme at first, but you can reduce the layers opacity.

Yea, I think we've all been on the wrong layer at one time or another. I hope you get the blue eyes the way you want.:D

Another option that works really well w/ blue eyes (I know b/c mine are blue) is to select the irises, copy them to their own layer (Ctrl-J), change the blend mode of the copied layer to Screen, and lower the Opacity of the copied layer until it looks realistic. They pop off the page. Couldn't help but reply to this post; I ran across it as I was doing "real work." :)

Here's another tut about eyes (bright eyes). Ok, maybe a very brief tut, but it should be enought...

Benny,
btw. The layer in blendmode multiply with opacity 60% is often not needed. Just a screen layer and a brush on the mask.
If you don't have the mask option, create an ATN file on another Photoshop, or download the ATN file. An alternative is a levels adjustment layer, then group it with key press Ctrl+G, or Alt click between...

EDIT: OOps I dont thunk I used a normal mask for the above image.

Another simple way is to apply a cooling photo filter adjustment layer to the iris... you can experiment with color...opacity...luminosity...and layer modes. I use color most of the time but you can also try changing the mode to screen or overlay to darken... lots of options.

Yet another way

Just open a blank layer...set is mode to color...choose a color such as blue and paint with a brush... I sometimes duplicate this layer and change the top layer to overlay for richness of color...then balance the opacity of both layers until I have the color I want.

You can also experiment with a color layer then a duplicated layer set to screen.

There are still more ways if this does not work.
