Ever since Don posted this message about a new camera from Panasonic (Lumix FZ18), I've been debating whether to splurge (since I already have a perfectly good Nikon CP8400): http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26998&highlight=camera

The day before I left on vacation, I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to buy it ... I LOVE IT!! I've posted a handful of my vacation photos in my gallery.

Thanks, Wendy!

Lisa, isn't that hysterical?? It was taken at Broadway on the Beach where they have this large fish pond stocked with catfish, carp, etc. The fish gather wherever they spot people (there are vending machines where you can buy food for the fish). They all just wait there with their mouths open - sometimes there are so many in the feeding frenzy, the ducks just walk on top of the piles of fish!

Beautiful images, Glenda! This (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=27330) is so nice - it looks like you've applied some sort of effect in post-processing. Is it straight from the camera? You've got yourself a fine camera, I'd say...

WOOPS! You didn't used the spherize filter to get that cat so fat, or maybe its just camera lens distortion ?

PS: Hmm, Where is now that delete button (she maybe can't tolerate a joke)

:D, I guess the image does make you wonder how does that happen, but I thought they looked a bit sinister too

Thanks, Nancy & Julie ... I just did a few minor things to that photo: straighten, just a touch of sharpening and bumped up the saturation a tiny bit. But, quite honestly, the original looked almost that good.

Benny: the fat cat photo was taken with my Nikon and I forgot to remove the "fat-angle" lens! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :D Besides, you know that the camera adds 10 pounds (all together now: how many cameras were on him?).

Glenda,

I would have felt terrible if you had bought and then disliked your camera . I too love mine as it is so well thought out and designed. That Leica lens is sooo good! The zoom range is remarkable, 28 - 530 mm equiv. I also bought professional noiseware for the higher ISO settings and am amazed at what a good job it does and how it practically completes the camera.

My only current concern is the availability of the lens adapter (DMW-LA3) that will allow use of 55mm filters and attachments. Not a big concern as I am sure it will be on the market soon, as it already is in Japan I understand.

I love your pictures, the three tenors cracked me up.

Don, after I saw your post I checked out the reviews for the Panasonic Lumix FZ18 and kept an eye on the reviews for the next month. The thing that sold me was the built-in image stabilization ... I've lost way too many photos to less-than-steady hands (it's a bitch getting old!). Once I got the camera, I realized that it was much better than my Nikon at zooming in for close-up photos! There are so many cool features on this camera that I've yet to explore, like the automatic face detection and some of the manual settings. But, overall, I have to say that this is one amazing camera for the money.

Thanks for the tip (and I'm glad "The Three Tenors" amused you ... it cracked me up, too)!

LOL :D

I think atleast two. A Panasonic FZ18, and maybe a Nikon CP8400

LOL, OK we should do a survey on how many people got new cameras within the last two weeks.

I'm new to the Village and like to say hey!!
