Man oh man, I need a secondary brain. Did a photo shoot a week ago for a friend....we were outside, inside, in the park....a ton of different scenerios....well after doing the action shots of the kiddies at the playground, I forgot to change back my iso setting for portraits of mom (from 1600 to what should have been 100-200 for head shots). Anyway, even noiseware could not save me, on this one, but with some creativity, I managed to come up with something (However, I did do a reshoot because my friend is just too gorgeous to photoshop :) ). She's 40 with 3 girls....!!!!!!

After: used noiseware and Classic Mystique and other stuff....

Denise, have you ever thought of putting on a Denise's Creations seminar! I'm serious! Spending a weekend... hey, even a day...learning from you would be.....priceless!

Think about it! I'm going to check where Pleasanton is, just in case!

Denise,

Here's my "I-can't-believe-I-goofed-like-that" story...

ALL of the family portraits I shot at my parents' 50th anniversary ended up at ISO 1600 because I had been monkeying around with my new SB-600 flash unit for my Nikon D80, and hadn't completely stowed the little pull-out/flap-down diffuser that covers the strobe if you're doing macro work.

I had been "testing" it, earlier, and had flipped it up, and allowed it to spring-retract back into it's slot. However, it needs to be pressed back into the slot just another fraction of an inch until it clicks into place, or the flash thinks it is still in low-power, macro mode. This, combined with me having the camera set on auto-ISO, resulted in it selecting the 1600 setting.

Regretfully, the idiocy of the photographer was not discovered until it was too late to re-do things. :(

Of course, Mom has picked out a few that she would like to have printed and framed -- and I'm stalling while I desperately try to salvage one or two shots.

Chuck,

Auto-ISO is a user-selectable choice on the D80.

This user has subsequently unselected it.

(Of course, if I had pushed the little gizmo until it went *click*, the ISO would not have been an issue.)

Gee, Byron,

I just checked my SB-600. By gosh, there is a little "click stop"; sure never knew that :D

Oh, its noisy alright....you know those dark black and red speckles you when you apply noiseware to a noisy image.....all over the place. Yucky!!!! Noise lines, static the bit...of course I'm viewing my images full on a 22'' monitor and if I can see the flaws, it gets tossed. The new ones a squeaky clean....but she did like what I did her photo.

Sela, I'm up here in the Bay!!! thank you!!! You are making me blush!! We should plan a girls weekend in Paso Robles for some photo shots on the coast and wine country....its in the middle right?? Sometimes I don't know what I did. But after the holiday craziness goes away, I'm taking 3 months off (Oh my gawd, I just started my business in July!!!), to get caught up, upgrade my computer, my products and do fun stuff like TUTORIALS!!! Right now its all work and no play.

and thanks, Smiles, Chuck, and Bryon (augh, what a story....that is why I won't do weddings..."excuse me, can you get married again, I had my camera on the wrong iso setting"....)..

Denise,

I think I surpassed you in 'things I forgot to do with my camera' this week. I decided I wanted to take some firework pictures on November 5th. I read up about it, went outside, set up my tripod and gingerly took the camera off auto mode and switched to manual, something I usually only do when shooting macros.

Well the camera just wouldn't respond....not one photo did I manage to get and I couldn't understand why....until the light of day when I picked up my camera and realised that I'd forgotten to change little switch on the lens from auto to manual.....:o:o:o

And unlike you, I have to wait a whole year to do a reshoot!!

Don't know about Canon, but the thing I really like about Nikon is that "Auto ISO OFF" is sticky.

Once you set it to OFF, it stays that way. Even if you engage "Menu Reset" and even if you engage the two "green buttons" for a reset.

I try to remember to do the latter every time I embark on a shooting adventure :D

Byron, I'm not sure what else I was doing when I wrote what I did....Auto ISO is user-selectable on some Canons as well. :o I think what I meant was that I would permanently disable it if I could. On my P&S, it's a click-dial setting, just one click away from 80 ISO, my usual choice.

Canon has perceived - correctly - that wrong ISO is such a problem for us that one of the advertised features of the new 40D is ISO display in the optical viewfinder. (I was just told, "No, you can't buy the 40D just because of that."....:()

Chuck, I have the 40D and yes it is displayed everywhere....I just got too caught up in the photo shoot. don't ask...I really need sleep..:(

And Bayla, I am crying for you....that also happens to me too. Oh well, there are a lot of good fireworks brushes out there:confused:
