Now that PSE 4 has been out for awhile and we are learning more about it and hearing user's experiences - do you think you will upgrade or??

Dunno yet... what is the best? upgrading to PS4 or upgrading to an used photoshop 7??? I am still thinking. For now, with all plugs-in available in PS3, I still can wait before making a decision; it remains the less expensive option.

I bought version 3 one week before 4 released. Somehow, I find that a bit irritating. I would rather spend the money on plug-ins for 3. I just don't see $80 worth of enhancements in version 4.

I've only had 3 for a few months and am finally starting to feel a little more comfortable with it. I'm going to wait a while-nothings really leaping out at me as a must have at the moment. :)

I've had PSE3 about 5 months and am still learning. I won't rush to purchase a copy of 4. The few improvements don't justify the cost.

No Wendy, you wont. But if you can get it cheap and can afford it then just get it so that you can say you have it ;) Oh...and you can use that new tool :)

Well I tend to want the newest and best and I think I already have that in PSE 3. Just not enough useful stuff and the loss of add-ins have made me decide I can't improve on what I have in PSE 3 so why bother upgrading.

I'd like to see a poll for those who upgraded and ask if they'd do it again today?

An interesting idea Brice. I think for the extras that are given and what's taken away, I will stick with what I have. Although I really would like to be able to see the font, I don't use a lot of text and I can just continue to use the font reader instead. I just can't justify the extra expense. I would rather put it into lessons. I still have tons to learn, so why add more to it? Besides, we haven't heard yet whether things like the version set are fixed or how about the back up problems.

The ability to see your fonts is a very nice new feature in Elements 4 but you can see your fonts or at least see them one after another with the old versions of Elements.

1) Type in some text and click the commit button.
2) Using layers select your text layer.
3) Click on the "T" twice rapidly. You will see it is now selected.
4) Click on it again and the highlight vanishes but it is still selected.
5) Click on the name of the font window.
6) Using the arrow keys will move you up and down through the various fonts and while you do the text on the image change to reflect the new font.
7) You can also scroll using the wheel on the mouse.

Have fun.

I purchased 2 last jan and realized afterwards 3 was out. So a week later I puchased 3. I will not be upgrading. I am still trying to learn what I have.
Glasses, newsletter and new camera, I am spending enough money on this hobby.

I am sort of in a cleft stick with this one ... well will be when the Mac version comes out.

I was happy with Elements 2 but gave in and updated in June this year to PSE3 ... really just to make answering question on this forum easier. The different versions were causing confusion so I took the plunge and bought PSE3 ..

... question is do I do the same thing for PSE4???

I think that I will just have to wait and see what happens :)

Has the act of compulsive buying died as a form of emotional art? What will become of us if we deny such a natural instinct to have the latest and greatest?

I only gave it a brief second thought before stopping by Amazon.com to preorder it a few days ago :)

Wendy, I guess for you Mac users, right now this isn't even something you have to worry about because you don't have the option. Your info will be valuable still but not with the few new tools.

Grant, thanks for the tip. I usually do use that method. (cause I'm generally to lazy to go to my desktop and click on the font list.

Foxhound, I have finally reached the point where when I accumulate enough "stuff" in my particular hobby, I start to get selective with my buying. I have to make choices and decide where to spend the money. If I'm going to just spend unnecessarily and to upgrade every time, I might as well just get the full version of ps and be done with it.

From what I understand there was quite a difference between 2 & 3, but not enough of a difference between 3 & 4 to even consider. For every gain, there was a loss, and the gains just aren't worth it.

Like I said before, I like odd numbers. So, I am waiting for PSE 5! Can't justify an upgrade to PSE 4.

Foxhound -

That was the biggest thing 4 had going for it. The first night it was out I was halfway through the buy process when I realized the file browser had been replaced by the cursed organizer. After a couple days of wrestling with that, I gave in and was again going to buy it when I found out that some of the PET extras that I've grown to depend on would no longer work.

Money aside (as if), it seemed like too much to give up just for the sake of spending $80. I'm sticking with 3 for now. I'll be curious to hear others evaluations of the new features ... hope you'll let us know.

Take heart ... PSE4 was released 12 months after PSE3 which was out 18 months after PSE2. At the present rate of acceleration PSE5 will be out in 9 months followed by PSE6 in another 6 months. There will be lots of opportunities to spend in the next year and a half

I agree: newsletter and new camera is enough for me too for this year. Finally, I do not think that it is worthy to upgrade to PS4. I don't want to lose all plugs-in that I got with PS3. I have a lot to learn with all the tutorials of this website, the books of Kelby, Lynch and Lhuyne and my new camera Canon (...bet that you guess which one  ; I returned back my Sony W5 and purchased that big one); then no more money except to renew my subscription to Newsletter. :)
