I'm obviously doing something wrong. When I try changing color of eye, entire face changes. I have gone through instructions step by step numerous times. What am I doing wrong?

If the entire face changes then you are forgetting to just select the eyes. Perhaps you are doing a ctrl D rather than a ctrl H to hide the selection. The ctrl D removed the selection.

If you're using the Hue/Saturation method, the entire face will change color at first. Then fill the layer mask with black and paint with white to reveal the color only in the eyes.

and then what? Unfortunately, we beginners need all the steps.

1. Add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and click colorize
2. Fill the layer mask with black (the color change disappears)
3. Paint with white on the mask to reveal the new color in the eyes
4. Double-click on the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and use the Hue slider to alter the color, or Saturation slider to change the intensity of the color
