What happen to the download feature that was in the last lessons but doesn't seem to be in the new one?

They removed it for technical considerations. You can still save the movies, but you have to check in your browser's cache. What system do you have (Windows or Macintosh) ?

Try the FAQ's this is regularly discussed, even I am doing it currently as I am having problems.
It involves letting the video ( Quick Time ) run through to the end, closing it down
Going ot Explorer, Tools, Internet Options
When there go to settings (near the middle rhs) (on my version)
Then View files
You can then try and find the .mov file you want or
look for the heading -last accessed- and set it to show last accessed files first. your .mov file shold noe be near the top.
Copy ths and then paste into a folder you want

The advantage of changing last accessed is tomorrow the new .mov file will also be near the top and easier to find. Depending on how much browsing on the net you do todays .mov will not be near the top.

An alternative to last accessed is file type. this keeps the .mov files together but not near the top

Thanks Chris

Seems to be a round about way but this worked just fine.

Anna,

I use a method similar to Chris except that i found that you can save all the searching if when you click View Files and you are into the cache files, go to the menu bar and in the VIEW drop down select details. Then when you scroll down to the bottom of the list, you will see the movie as the last item. Either the Quicktime or Windows icon and "?op=download". Copy this to a folder of choice. Far easier than it sounds, and the cache stays in the detail view making the next time less complicated.

Well for some reason I am no longer able to access the tutorial videos by going to "Tools>Internet Options>Settings>View Files" and finding the Quitc Time movies.

Does anyone have a clue what could be happening. I have done this many time before in the above manner without any problems, but tonight I cannot seem to make it work. This is frustrating as I want to copy days 4,5 & 6 of the Portrait videos for future viewing.

I have quicktime pro which may make it diffferent. Let the video load. On my screen I have to pull the slider down. Then click the bottom right corner at the little triangle it will give you the option of saving it as a mov file.

I don't have Quick Time Pro, but should be able to save as I stated above and as Chris indicated, which is the same method I was using. And I have allowed the movie to play to the end. In fact neither Windows Media or Quick Time works now, yet they did before.

I have Windows XP Pro, and using IE 6.0xx

Silly suggestions
did you let it run to the end
Have the preferences been altered so it's somewhere else in the list

Chris yes the movie ran to the end, and no the preferences have not
been altered. The only thing that had been done after my last successful movie copy was that I deleted the temporay files to have a clean start for the next movies that I would view.

Good Morning Dorrie

I found that the movies in the new series have a much different file name than previous ones. In IE (as described ) I go over to the column "Last Accessed" and click on that column title to get everything sorted by todays date. Then I find it right at the top(if I sorted newest to oldest). I right click on the weird name of the file | Copy | and paste it into my folder for my class.

Hope that helps :)

I'm a mac user, too. When I had trouble downloading the first series of classes, Wendy was able to get me through it. Now, it doesn't seem possible for "the rest of us" to save these wonderful videos for future practice, and boy do I need practice! I used Safari for downloading first series but I also have internet explorer. Can any one help this dummy.

My IE doesn't have the same menu options as the windows version.
HELP!
Susan

That's a shame really, I still go back and look at Scott's videos often-having them available when I neeed them is a wonderful resource!

Listening PET folks? We miss the download option! :(

The first class was, in part, a learning process for us to determine the best way to present training materials. Due to ongoing support issues with the video download options, and because it required additional resources to produce and store multiple versions of the video (four different videos, versus two now), we decided to discontinue the download option. Eliminating this download option allows us to produce new training faster and more efficiently and reduces multiple options that some people found to be confusing.

We are also currently evaluating the potential of improving our course video content by using true streaming video technology and/or technologies other than Windows Media Player and QuickTime, most of which inherently will not allow for downloads. Our anticipation of these technologies reinforced our decision not to include a download option for our course video content.

Thanks for your understanding of this change as we work to create a better online training experience. Please remember that you are welcome to view the videos directly from the training website as many times as you care to during your 60 days of access. I’d definitely suggest downloading and hanging on to the .pdf outlines of all the lessons and either printing them so that you can take notes on the training as you go through the video, or just typing up some notes on your computer as you’re going through the video. That way, you have consolidated all the highlights of the content so you can look back on them as you’re working on your own creations. Happy Photoshopping!

Thank you for all the background information .... saving the PDF to use in the future sounds like a sensible solution to me. Plus is it so quick and easy to do :)

I have found that I have to delete my cache before I view the video to reliably see the quicktime video appear in the cache were I could copy and paste.

Let me know if you need more detailed instructions...

Brice,

Not sure what you mean by deleting the "Cache". If you could explain I would appreciate it. If you prefer you can PM me.

I have finally gotten some of it downloaded, but I am still having problems loading some of the Quick Time movies. Namely Day 6 and Day 9, at this point in time.

I appreciated Paul Wilder's info on this subject, but found it somewhat dissapointing that they intend to drop the Quick Time & Window's Media style of videos. In spite of the fact that I have been having trouble downloading the movies they make a great future reference. Well I will certainly have to learn to take notes in future classes won't I.

Dorrie ...

You don't need to take notes ... just download the PDF after you have watched the video and the PDF will give you a written version of the classes :)

Sorry I'm a techie... To delete your cache in IE:

 Select Tools
 Select Internet Options
 About 1/2 way down the menu that opens is a button that says delete files.

I don't know, but if I don't do that from time to time, I won't get the .mov files in the cache. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I always do using this method.

I initially had my cache size too low..couldn't even get one movie, bumped it up a bit and it's ok now.

I can't remember if I tried clearing first..I think I did but not sure.

Thank You Brice,

I wasn't sure that's what you meant by cache, so as it turns out, yes I have been doing that and thus have been able to copy the movies from the Temp. Internet Files Folder.

What I can't seem to accomplish now, is to view Day 6 and Day 9's (Portrait Class) movie. It just won't load. I get a black screen and an hour glass that goes on forever. The screen I'm referring to is where the movie should open up in.

I was finally able to download Day 6 and 9 using the Window's Media version. All the other days are with Quick Time. Go Figure, darn computers.

Again, many thanks for your help.

Sounds like he thinks it would be the thing to do, if they change the online trainning format for movies.

I always do download the pdf's and will refer to them on occasion. Anything that can keep this old brain plugging along can't be all bad.

I have a different problem with downloading the videos. I have no problem finding the wmv files in temp files but when I try to save them it wants to save them all as training[1].wmv - I solved this by renaming day one training[1.1].wmv and then renaming each file with the appropriate number after it's saved. Just wondered if anyone else had the same problem or knew why this is happening?

Hi Bayla - that same thing happened to me and I handled it the same way you did with a rename. :)
