Milwaukee's Third Ward is a former warehouse district, now discovered by the beautiful people. It's a hot location for downtown condos and artsy shops.

The firehouse was constructed in 1893.

Rusty, very nice. I like them both but the photo of the City is my favorite. Nice shot, almost made me dizzy looking up at the tall buidings.

All your images look good. Isn't it nice when a city takes a sow's ear and makes a silk purse out of it?

Thanks, all,

Suzanne - don't give the city credit, they aren't smart enough to do anything like this. Credit the developers that have enough sense to recognize an opportunity.

The two on the top are in the same block. The building on the left is nearing completion of conversion; they are ready to start on the other.

Because this was a warehouse district with extensive truck traffic, it was platted with wide streets. To be fair, let's credit the City with willingness to listen to development ideas. One of the main streets, Broadway, now has a long, linear park running right down the center of the street - one lane of traffic and one of parking on each side.

The building in the far distance (center) of the lower picture was a 3-story building constructed of reinforced concrete in 1916. The company I retired from operated it as a factory for 80 years. We sold it to a developer for $2 mil; he did a very nice job adding 2 additional floors. The other side of that building is smack dab along the Milwaukee River. Those condos sold very quickly :)
