Cant copy tags (selected photos) to external hard drive

Can anyone tell me how to copy (not move) the photographs under my different tags to my external hard drive? I have spent days organising my entire collection into tags and now I want to copy the photos in these tags (for example all my 5 star favourites) onto my external hard drive.

I know how to back up my entire catalogue onto my external hard drive using backup optinon - but what do you do if you want to only burn some SELECTED photos (i.e. not a full or incremental backup)

I also know how to copy / move photos to cd or dvd - but under the copy move option it does not allow you to select the external hard drive and only gives you the option of cd or dvd.. .. how do you copy to external hard drive when you are only copying a few photos?

Please, please, please can anyone help? (it seems pointless to spend days taging photos if you only loose these collections if your computer crashes!)

Thank you for your response. Sorry I am still not quite clear.....
After file> export do I choose > as new files? - what does that mean and then what do I do....
Sorry if I am being a bit dense but could you talk me through it?
NB I only want to COPY the photos onto the external harddrive - while leaving them in the organizer too......
Export wont mean that I move them to the external hard drive will it?

Adobe's terminology is sometimes a bit misleading. Export (be sure to use >As new File(s)) means that a copy is created in a new location (EHD). The original image and the tags in the catalog remain unchanged.
