Jon,

If you are running Windows XP, you have to download the RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer (Microsoft PowerToys) to be able to view the RAW thumbnails: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

This will not help with the PSD thumbnails. That would be a bit more complicated since it involves a registry change. You can take a look at this thread and decide: http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10638

I believe the RAW thumbnail viewer only covers Nikon and Canon cameras. Not sure of that, but as I was downloading it after Juergen's kind suggestion, I saw CRW, CR2, and NEF mentioned...

Your Kodak may not be supported. The RAW thumbnailer has been around for some time and apparently was never updated. It seems to mostly support Canons and Nikons. Sorry.

I don't believe the XP Raw thumbnail viewer ever got updated for later model cameras - it doesn't work for my D80 for example and I recall seeing threads saying it didn't work for D40's either. You have to have Vista now I believe to get a Windows Raw Thumbnail viewer for later model cameras.

I tried out the Microsoft thumbnail viewer and found it didn't work for my Canon 30D.

Went looking and found a free download from Arcsoft that does work with Windows XP and my Canon 30D RAW images.

Link is here:

Thanks, John. I am glad to see that there is something more up-to-date around than the PowerToys thumbnailer.

I have XP and a D40. I have no trouble veiwing RAW thumbnails, but I get a black border at the top and bottom of the thumbnail. I used to shoot and have my camera record in both JPG and RAW, but don't any more in order to save space (mainly on my computer). I thought it would be more convenient if I wanted to burn and give a CD to someone else. It is, but I rather have the space on my hard drive instead.
