Well they pretty much all cover layers as that is the "heart" of elements.

Scott Kelby's Photoshop Elements (version number) for digital photographers seems to be in everyones library. It has an extensive section on layers and related issues such as filters, blending modes, clipping groups which are all used in conjunction with layers.

Photoshop Elements (version number) The Missing Manual by Barbara Brundage is an other popular book which covers that subject extensively.

Hi Jon ...

.... and welcome to the forum :)

A while ago I did The Basics of Layers (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?p=272738) just as an introduction to layers. It may help start you off :)
