To post an image to this forum:
1. Go to www.pixentral.com (http://www.pixentral.com/)
2. Put your cursor in the blank provided for the upload (where it says your image)
3. Click on the Browse button
4. When the "Choose File" box pops up, navigate to where your photo is stored, click on your photo file, then at the bottom of the box, click the Open button
5. It will come back to Pixentral with the path to your photo shown in the blank
6. Now on the Pixentral screen, click on the Send button
7. Once your photo is loaded (you'll see it on the Pixentral screen) scroll down to the bottom of the photo where you'll see two lines of text, one that says HTML and one that says Forum
8. You need to copy all of the text in the box after "Forum"
9. An easy way to select it is to triple click on the text OR drag your mouse all the way from the first character to the last character of the text
10. Once it is selected, press Ctrl-C to copy it
11. Then go to your message on the forum here and paste your link by pressing Ctrl-V
12. You can preview it before you submit it by clicking the "Preview Post" button at the bottom of the message window
13. If it looks okay, be sure to then press the Submit Reply button to send it
Hope this is understandable and works for you.:)

Diana - thanks for posting this. It's information well worth repeating.
The only thing I'd add was something about resizing the photo - to save upload time and to make it easily viewed.

Good point, Janice. I usually make images I post on Pixentral no larger than 800 px on the longest side.

Great idea, Diana! I've saved the link to this thread to my desktop for easy copy/paste when someone asks for instructions.

and, just to add illustration to those excellent instructions;
the first two are how to use Save For Web to resize your image:

And, this is what it looks like on Pixentral:

It's not really necessary to constrain your Pixentral image to 800 pixels on a side; the thumbnail that appears in your post will be much smaller than that in any event. There may be times, however, when you want to post a larger image in order to allow other forum participants to try editing the photo.
On the other hand, in deference to those who are still using dial-up, the 800 px image limit is good for helping to reduce download time.

Thanks, Rusty. I thought about using examples posted at Pixentral in my tutorials, but the images at Pixentral don't remain out there very long. Of course, the thumbnails would still stay in the thread.

What is the advantage of using Pixentral over the 'Save to Web' in PSE? Hope this isn't a stupid ? Thanks
Diana
November 1st, 2007, 05:49 PM
Hi Dales,
There are no stupid questions on this forum.:)
The Save option in PSE is "Save for Web" and only saves it to your hard drive in a format optimized for posting on a web page, it doesn't actually put it out there on the web. After you use Save or Save for Web, you would still need to upload it to a web page for others to view the image. Hope this helps.

Hi Diana thanks for the tut.I tried my first one today and sent a photo to rusty old tractor in the gallery section.I think it was too large, and when I click on it nothing happens! Most of the other photos I have seen expand to full screen size when you click them.thanks again..Dave.

Hi Dave,
Adding an image to your Gallery is a different procedure than posting an example image in a thread using Pixentral.
For instructions to post images to your gallery, if you are a subscriber, login and then click on Gallery at the top of the screen. Then from the "Welcome to the Photoshop Elements Techniques Gallery..." screen, click on Create My Gallery. That will take you to the screen that lists the requirements in size, etc., for posting to your gallery and at the bottom of the page is a form to complete to upload an image to your gallery.
Hope this helps.

Dave,
I just saw the image you are referring to posted in the Rusty old tractor thread. It looks like you may have copied the wrong text into your post. After uploading a photo to Pixentral, to post it in a forum thread, you need to go to the bottom of the image and copy the 2nd line of code where it says Forum:
http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1iAtYsUTIXQQTGlbExtzxC3kcYj0dm_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1iAtYsUTIXQQTGlbExtzxC3kcYj0dm)
As to the size, I usually resize my image so the longest side is no larger than 800 pixels when saving to upload to Pixentral.
Hope this helps.

Diana, I think your tractor has at least two flat tires......:)
Not to worry, though - they're only flat on the bottom....:D

I have been looking for info on the pixentral thumbs. Found one that answered my question, but still doesn't work.
When I click a link to a thumbnail, the thumbnail appears in a new window. If I hover my mouse over it, I get a zoom tool. If I right click I can save, print, etc. If I left click, it does nothing. I can save the thumb (as a thumb) but cannot get to the actual photo. "Open link" is not an option when I right click. Clicking on the thumb does not take me to the actual file.
So what is going on here and how does everyone get to these photos and I can't? boo hoo! Thanks in advance!

Hi ..
You donlt need to right click or left click on the thumbnail ...
Just try clicking ... and see if that works. It should :)
Test it out on this one ..
http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1rmObmSGYZRqFgIHqHkIc2dOdByp1_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1rmObmSGYZRqFgIHqHkIc2dOdByp1)
EDIT ... I just switched over to Windows (I'm a Mac user) and with the mouse I am using I had to left click. However Pixentral is running a little slow and the image took a while to appear

Hey Wendy! Thanks for responding. As I said in my previous post, clicking does nothing but get me a thumbnail. I clicked your link above, a new window appears with the tumbnail that has the pixentral logo. I click that and nothing happens.
Another lady is having the same problem on a recent challenge thread and doesn't seem to have resolved it. This seemed a more appropriate thread to ask for help with that problem.

Dot-Tea,
The thumbnail you posted in the above post worked fine for me. Linked to a larger version.
This may be a browser thing. I often come upon things that work incorrectly because I am using an old browser (ie5 on Mac OS 9.2.2)
What browser are you using?

I use Firefox and find that the click 3 times method doesn't work.
I have to click just after the first [ and drag to select, then copy. When I paste into a post on the forum, I have to add the [ back in.
Do other Firefox users have this problem?

Kev: Clicking 3 times doesn't work with my Firefox either but you can right click and Select All and then either right click and Copy or Ctrl-C to copy and then right click and Paste or Ctrl-V to paste into the post. Doing it that way seems to get the whole of the link code.

Kev,
I also use FireFox and I find that the 3 click method does work for me just fine. I had figured it would work for everyone. I am sorry you and Tony are having problems that way.

Charles,
it's amazing that it works for you and not for us. Still we manage to post the thumbnails OK.
