I am using PSE 5 my question is when using the elipse tool is it possible to rotate the elipsis shape. I know that I can move the shape around the image but can I rotate it at an angle?

thanks in advance for any help that you all can give me.

Have you tried Control T (Free Transform Shape) using the two sided rounded icon at the end of your cursor? That should get your the rotation that you are looking for?

There is another way to do it, whether you want to use it depends on what you want to end up with.

If you want to rotate the shape and the image, do what ATR said (the top example). If you want to rotate the shape but not the image...

Create a blank layer on top. Draw your oval and use Edit > Fill Selection (any color). Now rotate that filled shape. (the middle example)

Now go back to your image layer and Ctrl-J puts your selection, with the unrotated image inside) onto its own layer.

or get Grant's Tools - one of the basic free tools allows rotation of selection

Rusty,

The procedure that you decribed is interesting, but.....

I need for you to fill in the gaps in my interpretation of the question:

1. Given a Background Layer (otherwise known as the image in this case)
2. Shape 1 Layer above the Background Layer (generated by drawing out an ellipse shape with the Ellipse Shape Tool).
3. Applying Control T (Free Transform Shape) to the active Shape 1 Layer, and then rotating the ellipse shape.

How then are we rotating shape AND image? You only rotate the shape????

Is there some confusion between what the user is doing: an ellipse selection with the Ellipse Marquee Tool and an ellipse shape with the Ellipse Shape Tool?

I think the confusion may be on my part :)
I jumped to the conclusion that the marquee tool was being used, not a shape tool. My error.

You are, of course, exactly correct.
