Went to the zoo today and got a few pictures that I like, I think this is a favorite. The indoor light was poor and I had to use ISO 1600 but it still turned out well (I think).

The look and that face reminded me of my high school Math teacher. He was a real gorilla.....

Don, I love animals and the gorilla truly has his own personality. The picture is outstanding. Great shot.

Thank you all so much, I just wish that it was a bit sharper. One other thing, is the bit of straw a distraction that needs to be cloned out or does it matter at all? It doesn't add anything so common sense would have me remove it. Any thoughts? I know it's a small thing but.....

Thanks again,
Don

Good shot, Don. Oh, those eyes. If you met him on a dark night on Halloween...Yikes!

I actually like the straw. It makes me wonder what the heck he is doing with it in his hand. Makes the picture a bit more unique, too...

I agree with Julie. It made me wonder what he was thinking about as he held it.

Have you tried the highpass sharpening method (last "killer tip" posted by Cory Barker)? You could oversharpen his fur a little bit while masking out his face and the background. I have mixed feelings about the straw, myself.

I really like the picture. And he's probably using the straw to channel cosmic thoughts and is wishing the people at the window would just leave him the heck alone!!! :D

I have a gorilla shot that was taken at the NC Zoo this summer that caught a rather expressive look but it got ruined by the reflections in the plexiglass window (I was maybe 3 ft away from him). If anyone is up to a real challenge, I'd be glad to post it.

Hi Don...good stuff

I hope you don't mind if I played a little with your shot...I thought I'd move him to the jungle and make him a little King Kongish...I just love his eyes.

Or at least try anyway

Oh, Butch, how fun. He now has a "What are you doing here?" look.

Phenomenal job Butch, I love your take! How did you do the fur? it looks very natural. I'm still not sure about the straw though:)

Thanks,
Don

Hi Don

The fur was not real defined so I brought out some not so subtle detail by smudging with a hair brush then using the Paint Daubs filter. It is over the top but I like it that way..lol
