I am running into a bit of a problem with this exercise. In step seven the directions say to create a new layer below my image but when I follow the steps the new layer always appears above my image. What am I doing wrong?

If you Highlight the layer just below the image and then do the add new layer it should go under the image layer. If it doesn't go where you want it just drag it to the desired location.

Tina's right, if all else fails just grab your new layer and drag it down under your image.

Hi, and here is yet another way to get a new layer beneath your current layer. If you hold Ctrl while clicking the new layer icon you will get a layer beneath you present one.
Now to remember all of this..............

I've tried doing the steps that were suggested but when I drag the highlighted layer the icon turns into a circle with a line thru it.
When I do Cntrl click for a new layer the new layer appears above my image.
Thanks for your help,
Joseph

Hi Joseph,
Have a look at the first image on the tutorial. You should have 2 layers, the top one is your copy and the one you have been working on. The second one is your original layer which remains in it's original state for safety. (Eye icon turned off).
You want your new layer to be under Layer 1. Not under the Background layer.
If you notice the lock on the right hand side, that tells you the layer is locked and you will get a circle with a line through it if you try to drag a layer beneath this.
Your new layer is to be in-between these two layers.
Hope this helps :-)

Joseph, if you are dragging, and get the circle with a slash thru it, you have "dragged too far". That happens to me all the time - it took me the longest to understand that I don't have to drag it all the way above or below the desired layer. Just get it a bit more than half way and it should click into place.
