View Full Version : Deleting projects?

I have a question about deleting projects in Premiere. I was just reviewing what I printed out from the thread " http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif How do I delete a project? from 7-13-06.
Here is what I would like to know.
I have uninstalled Premiere elements 1.0 & want to delete the projects that were associated with it.
When I go to My Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/1.0, there are a bunch of folders there: encoded files, styles, layouts, etc. in addition to my clips. Since I have uninstalled the program, do I just delete everything? or are some of the folders associated with 2.0?
I will be installing 4.0 soon & want to avoid any problems! As well as potentially uninstalling 2.0.

PS Where do you find the URL to refer to a specific thread like the one I mentioned above?

Thanks for everyone's help!!;)

By default I find a folder in My Documents titled Adobe (that is the destination I always use in opening the program for a project).

In that folder is Premiere Elements folder with the following folders:

Adobe Premiere Elements Auto-Save
Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files
Encoded Files
Media Cache Files
plus
Styles

If you delete the first four folders, they will regenerate when you do another project. You never want to delete Styles which are used in the projects for a given version. So I would not worry about the first four folders.

I am not completely clear on what you did. Did you have versions 1 and 2 and you deleted 1? Did you have a consistent saved location for these folders?

URL
Go to the address bar, highlight the address, then go to Edit/Copy and then paste where you want the copy.

Let me know if I missed anything.

:)You are correct. I did have versions 1 & 2. Recently I uninstalled version 1 using the add/remove programs utility. Under my documents in the Adobe folder are 2 folders, 1.0 & 2.0. Each one has the above mentioned subfolders, clips, etc.
So since the actual Premiere elements 1 is gone, can I just delete the whole folder for it. The 2.0 folder would be untouched.

The reason I am trying to be so specific, is that after I get used to 4.0, I will eventually delete 2.0 & all files, since they all take up so much hard drive space.

Good Morning,

Deleting the 1.0 version folder should do it. Just make sure that both the 1.0 and 2.0 folders each have a Styles Folder of its own, since there will be a Styles folder going along with the other 4 sub folders in the 1.0 folder.

To be extra cautious, after you delete the 1.0 (to Recycle Bin), but before you empty the Recycle Bin, try out the 2.0 version to make sure everything is as was.

Let me know if you are OK.

ATR, thanks again for your "expert help". It appears that 2.0 is running fine. I had to delete the 1.0 folder in sections because I got a message that it was too big for the recycle bin! I guess the recycle bin has limits!

Any last minute advice before I tackle Premiere 4??:)

I currently have Premiere Elements 2 and am waiting for the release (supposedly any day) of the 30 day tryout for Premiere Elements 4. I have been managing with 1 GB RAM and optimizing (defragmentation, etc) like Mr. Clean. Free hard drive space is no problem.

My understanding is that I can have the 2 and 4 versions on my computer, but only use one at a time.

These are my plans:
Make sure the computer is optimized.
Browse the Premiere Elements 4 PDF Help
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremiereElements/4.0/help.html?content=WSDFBA8495-1B3C-4888-BC8C-990DC6924700.html

Now that Premiere Elements 4 has an Organizer, I need to be on guard for funny business with it and my Photoshop Elements 3 Organizer. Also on my reading list is:

The Premiere Elements 4 Read Me TechNote from Adobe

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402532&sliceId=2

I have about 27 days left on my 30 day Photoshop Elements 6 tryout and hope that Premiere Elements 4 is released soon so that I can get a look at the integration of the two programs. Both programs are supposed to have similar “new” interfaces. I have found the PSE6 interface to be a BIG con in the pros and cons tally.

I resisted the Premiere Elements 3 version and was not sorry about that decision. Let us see what happens this time. Although I am not setup to do anything with it, I am eager to check out the HD options of the new version.

I downloaded the Premiere 4 trial on Wednesday. Here is the link I used...

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?loc=en%5Fus&product=photoshop%5Felements

You need to be logged in with your Adobe name and password.

Elise,

Not doable. And, officially signed in all the way.

I have tried the route cited, it ends with "No File Found" and has been like that since last Monday/Tuesday. Yet you say that you downloaded Wednesday. Interesting.

At last Tuesday's eseminar on the new products, a project manager said that Premiere Elements 4 tryout was available when I was getting the "No File Found". When I called Adobe Customer Service and told them of the conflicting events, I was told that the Premiere Elements 4 tryout was not yet available, but was due out within several days. As of this post Saturday noon time East Coast USA time, not yet.

Could you give the route you just cited another try and see if you get No File Found at this time?

Right now there are two possible routes:
The Photoshop Elements 6 & Premiere Elements 4 Tryout Download, using the Premiere Elements 4 option to try (I have already successfully download Photoshop Elements 6).

If you go to the standalone Premiere Elements 4, the offering is just "Buy", no "Try".

I can still get the download screen, clicked the download button and it started to download.

When I click the above link I get a login screen, enter my password and continue on to the Download Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 Trials screen. Two options for download on that screen, Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements, pick your language and download. Working as of 12:23 Central.

Thank for the feedback.

Downloading Premiere Elements 4 via my Firefox 2.0.0.8 ended in the same result...No File Found...with all routes with me officially signed in.

I decided to switch over to my Internet Explorer 6 to see if the same thing would happen. This time I received the message:
"The site may require the following Active X control Download Manager from Akamai Technologies, Inc." When I clicked OK, downloading of the following began:
PRE4_TB_WWE (2.72 GB)
PRE4_TB_WWE (1.04 MB)
First the 1.04 MB file to completion in minutes, then the 2.72 GB file which is still downloading and will probably take about 7 hours to complete with my DSL.

There were a lot of conflicting info on this download out there, so thank you for contributing your information which accelerated my exploring.

The Photoshop Elements new version experience each year seems to proceed smoothly. But, with each progressive year, the Premiere Elements new version experience seems to get more challanging.

I will report back when it is downloaded and installed.

Hi,

Looked like this thread was going to answer my questions as well but,,,

I understand to NOT delete the first 4 folders and the STYLES folder as well.
I'm trying to save disk space and thought that if I render my footage I could then delete a lot of the rough stuff to save space.
Basically, I'm trying to create a small library of stock footage. Just ordered PE4 and will have to get some additional Hard Drives soon but, in the meantime- am I going about this correctly?
Meaning if I view/edit and save only the good stuff off of my tapes, render that well what then may I delete i.e., folders/files etc to save HD space.
Any thoughts on creating a small library as far as HOW to save these files on what medium? DVDs, external HD(more expensive per gig) than internal HD.

Some of my intent is to capture motions-ECU rain, water, ocean to use (hopefully) as special effects. Any help or thoughts are appreciated.

Jay,

I will be back later in more organized format, but, for now:

1. Archiving....Have you seen this Thread and checked out the links within it?
http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30055

2. External Hard Drive...the general idea is to have your program installed on the C drive, and have scratch files and project files on the same external hard drive. (See setting up Scratch Discs). There are certain considerations that are essential for success doing that.

3. Have you checked out the details for the Project Archiver, Archiver route? And, the differences between Archive and Copy?

After thought,

If you focus on one aspect (other than deleting) maybe start a new Thread so that the new focus will not be lost under deleting.

Wow!

So much to read,,,,
No- had not check out those areas you mentioned so I will be working on those asap.
I hesitate to go external simply b/c of the lag in transferring files compared to internal, plus. I built this pc mainly for PE. Unfortunately, I could only go bare bones system but once I can afford more HD's my setup can support 4 more SATA HD's.

Installation- I put my OS WinXP on a seperate partition C:\ and I put PE on another partition , E:\ ,along with ALL folders, scratch, saved etc. Tho I did make a secondary scratch onto C:\

Good idea about making a new thread as well,,, as soon as I finish reading the assignments you gave me I'll start a new thread something about 'Creating stock footage library' or something like that.

Thanks so much for the above help!
